Trouble Upgrading from 3.71 M33 to 5.00 M33

I seem to be unable to upgrade my PSP's cfw to 5.00 M33. I've copied the UPDATE folder to the GAME folder in my memory stick, as well as the official Sony 5.00 update which I've renamed to 500.pbp. So all told my UPDATE folder includes:

EBOOT.PBP (5.00 m33 update)
500.PBP (Sony firmware)

When I run the 5.00 M33 updater from the game menu, the psp shuts itself off after about 10 seconds. I've tried it a few times, to no avail, as the same thing happens. Am I doing something wrong here?

Any help would be appreciated.
