Hi

Earlier this week my bro kindly gave me his unwanted Wii which he bought in the US. (I'm in the UK!) The kids were delighted, all set up etc and working with Wii Sports. Then they wanted to play vs each other so I went down to the shops and bought Wii Play with its extra remote.
You can prob see the problem coming....The Wii Play wouldn't load!
My brain slowly clicked into gear and I worked out there are regional compatibility issues!

So... I came here and managed to follow the Bannerbomb installation of Homebrew channel, and have loaded the Gecko All region hack. I can now load Wii Play by going via Homebrew, Gecko, etc. Thanks to all involved in producing the various bits of the hack.
But its a little bit of a palava for a 7yr old kid if I'm not around (and the wife will need retraining all the time!), and presumably I will have this problem with every game I buy?

So what are my options?
Can I copy the DVD of Wiiplay on my PC and burn it somehow in a DVD format my US Wii will recognise?
Or can I mod the Wii further (either h/ware or s/ware but would prefer not to do h/ware if poss) so that it will read disks in the usual way (ie upon insertion) without the need for going via Homebrew Channel?
or is there anything else I can do?

Thanks in advance,

Al

Hi,

I am fairly sure you might be able to use http://www.wiibrew.org/wiki/AnyRegion_Changer

You can then change your US Wii to a UK Wii - but you will need a UK System Menu too - might be a bit risky for what you want tho.

I am fairly sure there is something out there to allow you to load backup games from the "Disk Channel" but I dont know if it applies to diff region games too.

Look up Starfall and BootMii (both allow region free gaming but not sure if from Disk Channel)

If you want it region free and boot via disc channel then a Hardmod (modchip) is needed.

Another option is Gecko OS has its own channel that you can install via a WAD file so you do not need to go through the Homebrew Channel. You can get the wad file from HERE.

Yet another option that might be easier for your kids is softmodding your system further and use a USB Loader. You will need a USB Hard Drive (I have a 500GB) which you can then rip games to the USB Device and then launch the games via the USB Loader. You can set the Loader up to auto-force PAL60Hz so NTSC(U) games should boot (as long as they are region compatible).

If your interested in this option go HERE and read up on this guide.

You also need to be careful when using Imports. They could cause a semi-brick/brick if you install an out of region game system update that some game disc have. Go HERE for more information (some Gecko OS versions and USB Loader will already block game updates from disc).

Personally I think you should go down the USB loader route, I use 1.4 and 1.5 versions both of which can play out of region games.

There is also a version of 1.4 for kids which has no install or delete ability, set it as a channel and in a few safe button presses they're in the game.
