Someone brought to my attention:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/629680

I am 75% sure it IS ACTAULLY possible to turn your 360 into a desktop.

My theory:

Do what people (like my brother) did to the orginal xbox. Throw a new hard drive into it, you would need to leave the old one in, if you still wanted to play games. So if you don't know anything about computers or hardware don't attempt it. You'd have to modify it to be able to hold two hard drives.

I was thinking of using an old PC case to hold this upgraded xbox since the 360 case obviously wouldnt hold two hard drives. Once this has been completed, you'd need to put a legit linux or windows (if possible), I think linux would be better; onto the new hard drive, including any other programs you'd like to run.

Discuss?

I'm sorry but it is a waste of time. You won't be able to put any thing bigger than 120gb for a hard drive. And for the the money you spend putting into making it a computer, you might as well buy better parts for the same price. Like the other forum said, the processor in the 360 really isn't that great.

I really do not see the point of fusing your 360 with a pc... I'm not sure if it would even work, and if it did, you could definately not use it on live, not to mention you would be looking at about $1500+.

It's like that guy that made his 360 into a laptop. Cool yes, but it's a 19 inch screen... and it's not even portable... he spent like $5000 (probably not that much, but somewhere near that) and i think it took him 6 months.

Just my very pessimistic 2 cents.

if you are talking about ben heck, the laptop is portable, and he makes them because he makes oddles of money for every one he makes.
and he did not spend anywhere near 5000$ to make it.

I have the parts all ready, i have like 4 decent not to old computers that i don't use. And the way my theory works and it would be put together you'd still be able to use the xbox hard drive, so really this wouldnt really cost me any money. I just need help fixing out the engineering of it. As for the processor, it should work for using minor programs. As long as i'm not using the new hard drive for any games, or anything to hard core it should be fine, if thats not the case. I can always swap it out for a new one?

I have talked to xbox support, they said it's possible but not recommanded doing because of the warranty.

And as for the ben heck, he prob has resources to make those without spending a shit load of money. How much does he charge ppl to make those for them? anyone know?

I imagine alot, It's not that hard to make one of those, maybe the looks but the overall construction of it. Anyone who is determined can do it. After I get back from my basic training, and AIT i will be putting this xbox computer together so I will have something to use to mingle with everyone. I don't feel like buying a laptop.

Hey, if it actually works and is portable, i could make quiet a few bucks off it. That is legal right?

I'm not sure what his name was, I read an article a few weeks ago on it (probably was months old). He said that it did not have a portable battery, and that he had only made 1 to date (may have chabged by now, and it also said he had made other consoles laptops). He took some real care though, he even made his own keys (for the keyboard) with a laser... I would go crazy if i had to do that.

yes it has to be plugged into the wall still, but he made a slim power wrick for it, so it is as if you were just carrying around a notebook and cord, still very much portable. you just cant move it while playing.
