hi all

i have been told that another reason my dvd writter might be burning dvd's wrong, ie i get blocky bits in the last 10 minutes might be caused by not having the upto date firmware for my burner,

i found this link http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1603

it is the page for me to get my firmare but i am really new to this, and it says it could be dangerous if you do not know what your doing, has anyone done this before and it is easy??

if anyone could look at the above link for me and maybe take me through it i would be really grateful as i dont even knw which one to download!

Thanks for all your help

Chris

There is nothing really dangerous about upgrading your firmware sine it is done automatically with the update. At least it was for mine. The only thing you have to worry about is the power going out while upgrading your drive and this could render the drive useless. Also make sure you have the correct firmware for the correct drive model. Bottom line is you should be able to do it following the instructions from you DVD Drive vendor. In fact I just finished upgrading my firmware for my Lite-On drive.

Hope this helps.

Firstly if you need help for any problems with your drive you must tell us what drive you have installed. Secondly the problem you are having may be due to poor media and not to firmware, although changing your firmware shouldn't be a problem if you do it right. I suggest you tell us what drive you have installed and what ripping and burning software you use. Also take a look at the DVD media threads with a view to changing your disc brand.

i have a tohsiba sd-r6112 drive and i user Nero recode 2 and burn it with Nero also. i have also tried DVD Shrink 3.1 and burn with copy2dvd. i have tried 4 times 2 worked, once on a dvd rw and once on datasafe dvd.

2 thats failed have both been on datawrite classic yellow disc, but the thing that puzzles me is that when i borrow a copy dvd from frineds they are always on these yellow datawrite classics so they must be ok to copy to yet i have
trouble.

Why do you burn with copy2DVD? If you have the latest version of DVD Shrink installed you can burn directly with Nero without even opening it. I never have any problems. Try that and also try changing the media if that doesn't work - Ritek discs are the most reliable of the cheaper one's and you need to have DVD Info to be able to tell whether the Datasafe are Ritek or not. I don't think the problem is with your firmware. If copy2DVD is a burning rom programme be aware that it can clash with Nero and you should uninstall it.
