hi, i was wondering if anyone has found a way around updating the xbox 360 once it has been banned?? i have the fall update but what i am after is the update that allow you to play avi and xvid on the console.... i know that before you could only do it if you can log onto live... which of course i cannot do with the box... i have a box that is not banned also and has all the updates...

is there any way around this for me???

you can download the updates, and put them either on a cd or a usb drive and update it that way.

hi, the box is banned from live... it is modded.... i know i can download the fall update and stick on on a usb stick, but i am talking about the update that allows me to play avi files... is there a way to get this update?? i don't think that can be download onto a usb

Easiest way to do this AFAIK would be to put your harddrive / mem card in another xbox 360 > Sign in to your gamer profile > Attempt to play xvid and you will get update request > once updated put harddrive / memcard back in banned xbox and voila!

buy them. either that or do as stated above and take your hard drive to someone elses console and get the update, but you will more than likely get the NXE dash then, and will totally mess up your avi playback as with me and a couple other people that i know of, you have to be signed into live to watch avi/divx files.

i have live on another console... but i wasn't sure if swaping the hard drive was for the avi update... and i am worried that if i swap the drive then after they will ban my new xbox??? is that possible??

sorry don't mean to sound thick lol.... but what exactly do i do?? just swap the drive, make a new silver account and update the hard drive??

just some people have told me that the update is on the console and not on the drive??????????

just put the HD from your banned console on the unbanned console, log onto your profile, and try playing a avi file, and it should state that you need an update to play it and it will download it. then you should be able to put it back onto your banned HD and watch them.

this works for some people but not others. i fall into the others category as i HAVE to be signed into live to watch avi files for some reason, but others on here said they dont have to.

if this method doesnt work, then about the only way is to open up your HD and manually put the codecs on the hard drive as stated before.

hi, i put the hard drive into the 360 that i can use online... it did update and played the avi file... but as soon as i put the hard drive back into it's own 360 it wouldn't play avi files... i got the same message needs a media update... so unless there are any other ways around this i am stuck...
