Im pretty confused at this point.
I have two Xbox 360's - both with original drives that I believe are flashed last to iXtreme 1.4 or 1.5 - can't recall
I used iPrep before and have backup of the USB drives I had used.
I have a Samsung M25 and BENQ.
It seems like jungle flasher is the way to go nowadays.
1. In regards to the upgrade, does it flash and upgrade by itself to the new version? Does the original firmware need to be restored?
2. I looked at the jungleflasher guide and am confused. Do I first connect the 360 directly to the PC and boot in WindowS?
3. I read the guide on p. 19 and on for the Samsung drive, does the drive need to be unlocked, etc. if its already flashed?
Help would be appreciated in making sure I flash it successfully and keep it simple.
Thanks

to address your questions:
1.) The process is pretty automatic. All you do is plug your benq or samsung drive into your PC sata port, power it on, boot into windows, then unlock in JF and "read" from there it will load your drive key automatically, as long as you have the latest ixtreme loaded into the jungleflasher's Firmware subdirectory (folder) then it will load that, spoof it, and you'll be ready to give the intro, flash, give outro. done.
When I used JF, I restored my drive first, yes. But in order to do it, it was a pain. See here for more data : http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/775088
2.)Also, I'm fairly certain that samsung drives still need to be unlocked as well, though I hope someone who has a samsung can answer that question better here.

Thanks for the response - so restoring the firmware is necessary for the upgrade?
I think last time i upgraded on the Samsung was from xtreme firmware to ixtreme - using iprep - it seemed simple enough.
I wonder if I should stick with iprep to keep this simple.

Jungle Flasher will keep it simple for you. You do NOT need to restore to original firmware on BenQ/Samsung. The only drive you have to restore to original firmware is the Hitachi.
Edit - Removed Lite-ON because you can't restore original firmware back to it.

I would disagree. True, it's not NECESSARY to restore your original firmware except for hitachis, however, it's highly recomended.

I've never had an issue with BenQ or Samsung overwriting iXtreme firmware with iXtreme firmware.

I may just be paranoid, but I do a restore every time lol. Of course, my first 360 drive was a hitachi, which got me into that habit in the first place lol!

No you never need to restore on a benQ or sammy. Never even heard of doing it. Doesn't make a difference when you're upgrading. Just flash it and be done. Restoring to orginial first would do nothing for security reasons.

my only reasoning behind it, is then if the flash goes bad, at least then you'll have some original FW on there. I don't even know if that matters. I dont' think it does. It just makes sense to me lol

BenQ and Samsung can be recovered from a bad flash. So it wouldn't matter if stock or iXtreme was on it.

I also know that. Just makes sense to restore first.

well glad you could come in here and tell a SR member that hes in idiot when you have nothing to support your claim. and actually it does make sense, it takes an extra two seconds to restore it back to stop and reflash it. so i say you are an idiot.

Do you still have to have the VIA chipset or are more chipsets compatible now? I originally did mine with a nforce 4 chipset but I dont have that anymore. I think all I have are intel chipsets.

If I remember right I think ICH8/9/10 work. I have a ICH7 and it definitely doesn't work.

I want to flash my benq drive to ixtreme 1.6. I don´t know wich firmware the drive has, because it was already flashed (to play backups) when i bought.
It's possible to change the firmware to ix 1.6?
How do i backup my actual firmware in case something goes "wrong" and how do i restore it?
I heard Jungle Flasher it's the easiest tool. Do i need something else?
Any tutorial i must read?
And sorry for the lots of questions and bad english.
Thanks in advance.
