Hey guys, I've been using verbatims since I modded my 360, and they've worked great. But since they moved their manufacturing from Singapore, the quality has really gone down hill.
Does anyone have an alternative? Or is Verbatim's "poor quality" still higher quality than most?

Regards

Budro

I used memorex even though everyone says they are crap, I've burned over 50 games with not a single coaster. Of course I have a good burner and these don't work for everyone. Verbs of course are the best and I've heard TDK's are good also.

For the record, we choose higher quality media not only for the success rate, but for its longevity as well.
If you use Memorex, odds are those discs are going to wear down a lot over time, and that would possibly cause problems in the future.

But thanks for the replies. I'll check my sams club to see what they have! :)

its not the amount of successful burns u receive from a brand that makes it good media ... its the quality of the disc thats important ... for the 360 u should really use first class media to put less strain on ur systems eye/laser - it will have a longer life if u do ...

find out the ID of ur discs and check here for the quality of it ...
http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm

there is no question that just about any dual layer disc will work but the poorer the quality - the harder ur eye works to read the disc ... my first couple of discs were Office Depot (3rd class media) and the shit worked - then i found that site i linked and switched to verbatim (1st class) and load times were faster and there was little to no noise from the laser while reading the disc ...

basically - just spend a little extra and use verbatim ...

I'm cheap and can fix it myself, like I said memorex discs aren't for everyone but worth it for me. I'll simply buy a new laser or swap one with another drive if it goes out. Verbs are insanely expensive and not worth it since I get a 100 dvds compared to 50 verbs for the same price. Again, I can fix my own stuff, so if you can't ,get verbs.

quality over quantity. who cares if one brand has double the discs in a spindle. crappy ink dye will strain the laser, and doesn't have the life span. you will end up spending more money in fixing the hardware.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

It only costs 24 bucks for a 20 pack of verbs from newegg. Not expensive at all, in my opinion. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a new disc every one of your dumb friends scratches it lol

couldnt have said it better. anything will work, just keep in mind you will have to replace your laser at somepoint(which isnt hard). personally, i'd rather pay 50 cents more a disk than take my xbox apart for the millionth time.

LOL. Like I said not for everyone. I've used these for years now, no problems. I always have a laser I can pop in if needed.

i agree with you in a way gameover9, its kind of misleading to tell people verbs are the only way to go period. noobies should at least be told the reasons why they're preferred, and then make there own decision. for me, its a no brainer because my old ass hitachi is pretty picky, but for others, just weigh the pros v cons and enjoy.

That's how I look at it. If it's a box you want to last and don't want to fix, then I'd use verbs.

Since backing up all of my games I only use verbs. I would rather pay $1.00 more for a disc and save to hard drive than use cheaper media. I have no problems with other pps using cheaper media. But I just prefer verbs since I've not burned a coaster since backing up my games.

The main thing about Verbs and Taiyo Yuden which are the only discs i use is that they still use Azo Dye which is top grade quality dye...
and its the quality dye that the discs are made with the help with less strain on the lens and better longevity....
so other than verbatims will be taiyo yuden.
but with most of us coming all the way from burning games for ps2/xbox 1, then it makes a lot of sense to us to use the better discs because i went through multiple lazers/drives just because i was being a little bit cheap.

I have a confession to male, I have turned to the dark side. It all started with the Black Friday promotion at Office Depot. They were selling 15 Memsuxors DL for $9!! How can I not get this, eventhough it's mem.

Whatever, they do suck. Had like 6 coasters out of a pack of 15! lol

Verbs all the way! 20 for $24 is so good!
