DM500C in USA?

OK looking at this site and others I'm thinking about getting a DM500C which is a dreambox cable receiver. I've found tons of alternate firmware for it that looks really fun as mentioned in these two threads:

My question is if I buy this and download one of these firmwares will this work in the USA (people sell them here with proper power and the firmware has NTSC settings etc.), all I read in the sites is UK and Ireland but those threads mention a brute force scan and other firmwares I've seen mention epg scan some threads say things about all areas, is this all areas in UK or all over? Any insight would be appreciated. I'm sure the satellite version would work great regardless right?
