Maybe the dogs is trained to smell chemical in pressed-dvd used in pirated dvd. Not to smell recordable dvd-r media.

There almost no pirate use blank dvd-r. Most pirated dvd you can buy easily at Mall, supermarket, etc etc is created on factory-pressed-dvd.

And, that thing really have strong smell. Just go to any mall in malaysia or indonesia and buy one. Then smell the dvd.
You will understand what i mean.
(its almost impossible for you to get original movies, games, softwares on Indonesia Mall, they only selling pirated things.)

Their version of peta=people for the ethical treatment of animals.

My version of peta=people eating tasty animals.

ok that was a joke so don't get too stoked over it.

Fyi some dogs sense of smell is so great that they can pick up a scent left outside, in all sorts of weather, after it has been there for weeks. I imagine the can sniff differences in disks burned, unburned, pressed, etc. Now you know why they use them and as for the ones employing them... well they sniff other chemicals.

edited for spelling

The studios should run a 10 year plan to under cut the pirates, then after that wait 5-10 years until piracy rates are back up they can make some profit off cheap pressed films for those areas, and repeat as necessary, if you don;t fight them on their terms they win because that's how true free markets work....god US corp has forgotten so many basic things....

Oh and there I was just thinking about the similarity between what I see most dogs sniffing at and the hollywood content of the disks.
I don't know why they need a dog.. I can tell if theres a box of hookey dvd's nearby... and it's not just because some illegal is shoving them under my nose saying "two pound, two pound"

I think overall I prefer this kind of Pirate Bust http://www.flickr.com/photos/sandrascakes/3237164992/
