as far as i know yes it will work here i think there is a piece wrote about them on this thread by kegnkiwi 'about 20 messages back' you need the 9600 box, sat dish, (not sure on exact type of dish) and around 2meg of broadband speed, im sure if you send kegnkiwi a pm he will tell you exact what you need and if it is a certain dish,
also have a read of this click here some people must be pissed off about the cable boxes

There are a couple of things people should note, Hubabuba you say you have a dish, well you don't mention how big it is and where it's pointing. People must realise that you cannot just connect up a protek to a sly dish and you get all the channels you had on cable via satellite. It takes a little more work. The stuff that available via the receiver is spread on at least 4 different satellites. 19e 16e 13e and 30w. Three of these sats are very strong and you should be able to get away with a small dish but it depends on where you are and how far north and west. 16e is very weak and will no doubt require a 1m dish at least in ireland, by the way when we say a satellite is 13e or 19e we mean it's 13 degress east of south or 19 degress east of south, 30w is 30 degress west of south. A motorised set up is best but there are various options. People also need to know that a dish does not always need to be mounted high up on the roof or on a wall. Provided you have a south facing garden with a clear line of site south there is no reason not to try ground mounting a dish. You could try a patio parasol base with a scaff bar. as long as the pole is verticle you should be a ok. Sat signals come down a the pitch of a house roof generally. Thats why you may see some sly dish's just clearing the gutter line on properties. So dish size is dependent of location. Check out a website called lyngsat.com to see where the signal is beamed and what size dish is recommended.

The protek will also require you do to a little work with it, it needs flashing and its internet connection set up, it's not just plug and play. There are some great tuts and how too's on other sites.

Tahnks kegnkiwi,

I Have 50 size dish on the roof pointing 19e.

I also have a smaller dish, makeshift one to my workshop( for messsing about)stuck in the garden on a pole. I should have made it a bit clearer. Its a Li^l one which comes with com*g sl55 or 56. So any advice most welcome with the Protek, thanks again.

Put the V1.12 on weather or not you are in the uk or not, there is a hardware issue with boxes which kills the boot loader on the box, that is why the new firmware was released for both Ireland and the Uk, so if you dont put it on after you have been advised, you only have your self to blame when it dies.

FIRMWARE V1.12 HERE

Yep it was discovered by the Starview development team, about the hardware issue with the bootloader dying, so to fix this problem they released the V1.12 firmware to rectify that problem. ;)
