You access some stuff over your network.
It works with many of the emulators.
I put a ROM in a shared folder on my computer an I can access it in VBAGX through the network.

Also is in other stuff.
SMB in MPlayer is my primary use of it.
I have a videos (such as Bleach and Naruto episodes) on my computer and I use MPlayer and Wii to see them on the humongous TV downstairs (at least until I get my new monitor)

It's actually pretty convenient.

READ:

http://www.samba.org/cifs/docs/what-is-smb.html

To set up is to set your PC which folder to share, once the folder is shared from your PC, set your Wii to access that folder by:
mapping the IP of the PC and folder folder.

The folder can contain music, video or any files you want to share. This is the same as sharing files within a network for security you need to set password on the shared folder.

No SMB share can run Wii games, the only way is have an HDD connected directly to the Wii USB port and have it formated to WBFS.
