I have come to the conclusion that I have a benqdvd drive based on the shape of the DVD tray. I will check the wires momentarily to make sure. But I also am wondering something... I opened up my 360 yesterday and the sticker on the DVD Drive says Liteon. Are liteon and benq basically the same thing? (At least I believe it was liteon...)
Anyhow... let me get to the chase here.
I only have one sata connector on my PC motherboard. I have the Nvidia chipset on my motherboard. I have heard that Nvidia usually works well with flashing a 360 DVD Drive.
I spent most of the day yesterday reading up about flashing as well, so I'm not completely oblivious to what I need to do to make it work.
So I hooked up my SATA cable from my 360 DVD Drive to the only SATA connector on my motherboard. I then tried to detect the DVD Drive and had no luck. I am running Windows XP service pack 3.
So I was wondering what else I may need to do to get this to work. My computer is an EMachine if that helps. If anyone can offer me some tips or suggestions, I would be forver grateful. I have soft modded tons of original xboxs in the past, but this is a new challenge to me that I hope to be able to master in due time.
Thank you for your time and I will be anticipating any help I can get.
Lite-ON and BenQ are different. You will need additional hardware to get the job done with the Lite-ON. You will need a key reader (example= CK3 Lite/PRO with probe or 360Xtractor with spear). The firmware on the Lite-ON can't be read so you need to probe a specific point on the board to get the key, then you can spoof the info to iXtreme and flash it. BenQ firmware can be dumped so you just need to hook it up and dump the firmware. The best tool to use (in my opinion) is Jungle Flasher. Visit http://www.jungleflasher.net or you can check out the tutorial linked in my signature. The JF tutorial will help you get the job done.
I removed the faceplate on my 360 and took a look at the wires for the DVD Drive. I have two yellow wires, and I read somewhere else on these forums that the yellow wires confirm that I have a Lite-On DVD Drive. So basically, what do I need to do now? And what do I have to get? Is it even worth worrying about now that I have confirmed that I have a Lite-On Drive? I was hoping to be able to do this without having to invest anything into it if at all possible.
I downloaded Jungle Flasher, and it is a winzip file with a lot of files included. I honestly have no idea what to do with them at this point. I assume that most of the bin files are firmware from various DVD Drives in the Xbox 360? There are a few PortIO32 files including dll, inf, sys, and exe. Are those drivers by any chance? There is also another file called What.Net.exe. What is that for? And what are FTD2X.dll and devcon.exe used for?
I read the Jungle Flasher tutorial and unless I missed something, I didn't find anything about those files I mentioned above.
I guess what I need to know at this point is what I need to do next now that I know what type drive I have. Thanks again for the help. It is much appreciated.
With the CK3, you need to purchase either the Pro or Lite along with the probe.
I didn't really search for it but another option is the Xtractor Pro with Spear.
HERE is another kit with the connectivity kit and probe for a good price.
Edit - On page 10 it talks about inserting the probe into the R707 point.
To get Jungle Flasher running properly, you need to have the .Net framework installed. What.Net is just program to show you what .net you have installed. PortIO is needed in order to see the 360 DVD drive. There is an auto install or you might have to install it manually.

You will need to invest about $100 or close to get it to work and from this statement above, sounds like you don't have much computer skills so I would not recommend it. Send it to someone who could do it for you cheap. If you mail me your drive I'll do it for $15.00
Man... this really sucks. I was hoping to be able to do this with a simple flash like the other drives. It figures I would have the one drive that needs a ton of other steps that can only be done by purchasing something. Thanks for the help, but I believe I am going to not worry about modding this thing. Perhaps I can trade it for another one that has either a Samsung or Benq Drive. I honestly have no idea why I thought I had a Benq drive to begin with. I believe I got the idea from http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/Xbox_360_DVD_Drive_Comparison.htm
The shape of my disk tray matches the one on the far right side according to the photos. So I assumed it was a Benq. But I also know that the wires behind the faceplate are yellow, and according to what I have read here, that indicates that I have a Liteon drive. So basically what I am getting at is this:
If I have Liteon, then I am not going to bother going any futher with this modding idea unless I can find someone who can do it for me.
If I have benq, then I will continue my research until I am confident in myself enough to go through with it.

If you have yellow wires, you have a Lite-ON. I'm sure there are members here who will flash it for you for a small fee and if you pay shipping both ways. If you remove the drive yourself, it will save you on shipping costs.
Okay. Thanks for all of your help here. It has been a pleasure discussing this with you. You have helped me out more in 2 hours than all the reading I have done in the past 24 hours.
