hi i just bought gran torino blu-ray and was going to go watch it but it wont load on my ps3. all my games work fine and my other blu-rays but not gran torino i know its a new movie but is anyone else having this problem? i know its not the disc because it works fine on my labtop.
I've never heard of anything like this, and google doesn't bring up anything that would lead me to believe that Gran Torino just has PS3 compatibility issues...
So I'd have to guess that it's the region of the disc. If you bought it online, or from a shady dealer, or if your PS3 is from a different country, you might have a region error.
If you're not familiar with regions, they're a basic antipiracy measure set-up by authorities to keep movies from being pirated and sold internationally, by leasing disks to only work on devices made in the country that the disk was released in.
In other words, if you live in region 1 and have region 1 player, but a region 3 disk -- it won't work. Laptops and portable players are often times "Regionless" because they're intended for travel. But if you live in America and your PS3 came from an American retailer, odds are, it's Region 1, and your disks need to be region 1 as well.
Regions seemed like a good anti-piracy idea, but they've really just proved to be an annoyance considering that most pirating software can reproduce disks as regionless anyway.
So, yeah, you might want to check that the regions on your PS3 and Gran Torino disc match. If you don't know what region your PS3 is, just compare Gran Torino to another BR Disc that does play.
