Yesterday I was fixing a rrod console and I put too much pressure on the fan power supply trying to remove the fans. Now the fan power unit (on the mobo) has come off and I don't know how to fix it.

I can plug it back in and the thing works and it'll keep still, but as soon as I jerk the fan power unit a little it will come off the mobo again.

My questions are can I just solder it back to the mobo or should I tape it back to the mobo?

The pins on the fan power unit are not broken but I think the glue or sticky stuff what attaches it to the mobo has come loose.

I'll take a few pictures and upload them later

You should be able to solder it back on faily easy. Remember it's lead free solder and it might be a little troublesome heating up the solder. Use a bit of flux and the solder feed/flow technique.

If that point is damaged and you don't want to risk further damaging it then use this tutorial.

I've never soldered before so I'm going to let someone else do it, did you take a look at my pictures btw?

The iron/connector thingeys aren't broken but they just came loose I think. How do I solder those back on? Just use a bit of lead free solder and resolder it to the mobo on the connector spots or do I need to do it different?

Sorry if I didn't understand your solution english isn't my native language.

it's alright

Pretty much if i were you i would clean up those pins you will be putting back on the board. First you will have to remove the board from the metal case. Then use some desoldering braid and take the solder right off those pins. Then you can easily slide it though the board and solder the pins back in place.

It doesn't matter if you use lead solder, it's really not a big deal. Just make sure you heat both the point on the board, and the pin at the same time so solder flows to both points. Make sure the pads didn't rip off the board (this is what i'm talking about damage). It looks like you didn't push in on the latch and ripped the connector straight from the board.

When you get everything soldered back in make sure both your fans work.

Wow, those came off pretty clean. Must of been a poor solder job to start with. But yes, like c4rn1 is saying, it is a pretty easy fix.

Thanks for the replies guys, I got it soldered with something (don't know what it was but it was good stuff used especially for electronic devices and it was heat/cold resistant). Works great now!

Btw will my RROD come back even if I keep it well ventilated? As far as I can see the fans spin harder and it keeps blowing out cool air instead of hot air because the fans spin quick.
