I have two xbox 360 offical hard drives, ones a 20gig the other is a 60gig. Id like to upgrade to a 120gig HDD.
Am I better off taking the 20gig apart and buying a 120gig laptop HDD and swapping it over? (im guessing there is somthing I need to do to the laptop HDD so that the Xbox360 can see it)
Or.. can I just buy the connector that the offical xbox HDD uses, and attaching a laptop hdd to that?
Also can I use a 500gig HDD?
Or is it simply easier, and cheaper to buy a 120gig hdd?
Ok, just to let you know, you should search, this has been answered many times. But, I'll go ahead and answer.
You can't upgrade with what you have, if you want to hack a HDD you must have the SS from a 120 gig HDD. If you take the SS from the 60 and put it on a 120gig laptop HDD xbox will only see 60 gigs. The other 60 would be unseen and therefore unused.
Same thing with the 500, you wouldn't be able to use the other space. As far as easier and cheaper, I couldn't tell you. It is definitely easier to just buy a 120gig HDD for the 360.
I know there are SS's for 120 gigs floating around on the internet you can download, BUT I do not know if it is safe to use those as obviously other people will use them and Microsoft might be able to see and ban people for that. Some people say the SS has the serial number, others say that it is flashed with your Serial when formatted to your xbox. I have heard of quite a few people using hacked HDD's with no problem, BUT they may be between ban waves and their time is coming.
You need to buy a western digital BEVs series laptop hard drive and flash it using a program called hddhackr. Google it, there's tons of guides out there.
The ss files you find on torrent sites are fairly safe to use. To date I haven't read about anyone getting banned for using a hacked hard drive. That's not to say it won't ever happen though.
As of right now 120 gb is the biggest you can make a drive.
This is the easiest mod for the 360 and it's way cheaper than buying the ms hard drive.
Ebay usually has pre-modded drives for around $60-70 if you want to go that way.
