Hi,
Last xmas I bought my son a 360 and as it had a liteon drive in it sent it away to be flashed. Had no idea what drive was in it or what firmware was on it.
Now decided to update to latest firmware so took 360 apart. It's a Samsung drive. Still no idea what firmware is on it.
Connected the drive to my PC (sata to MB sata) running Vista Ultimate. Got hold of JungleFlasher 0.1.62, had to install portio manually. On boot BIOS sees the 360 drive but within Vista there is nothing. JungleFlasher doesn;t see it either.
So I tried on another PC running XP. Connected in the same way, had to manually install portio again. BIOS sees the drive but neither XP nor JungleFlasher can.
I tried with older versions of JF (0.1.60 and 0.1.59) same result although portio installed fine on XP from these (didn't try on Vista).
Anyone have any ideas why JF can't see the drive?
Thanks in advance.
Bob.

So when you go through the port i/o's none have the drive in the drive properties? Just trying to get a better idea of what things are looking like.

Yep, none of the ports had the drive on.
Some of them when selected would grey out all the options on the right and have nothing in the properties box. Others would have "no drive detected" (or whatever) in the properties box and the options on the right would be selectable.

Quick update.
Gone back to using the Vista machine. I've swapped the SATA port the drive uses and now JF can see the drive (although Vista still doesn't).
There's still a problem though. The drive is a Samsung TS-H943 MS28 but JF reports it as (in the properties bit on the MTK Flash 32 tab) :
Vendor...PLDS
Name.....DG-16D2S
F/W Rev..7485
That doesn't look right to me. Right?

What that means is they either took your lite-on or messed it up so they put a spare drive in it and spoofed it as a lite-on.
When you update just make sure to spoof it as a lite-on again and you'll be fine.

Thanks for that.
Any chance you could provide some pointers on exactly how I would do that with JungleFlasher? The docs not so good.

You should be able to dump it and load the fw like normal. Since its already been spoofed it will have all the information that it needs and will automatically spoof it again.
Just when you make the new fw (JF will autoload it if you have it in the firmware folder in JF) make sure it keeps all the right drive properties. And I believe(I say believe because I can't remember exactly) it will even tell you its a Samsung spoofed as a Lite-on.
SO.
1.Dump Firmware as usual
2.either manually load the samsung 1.6 firmware or if its there JF will autoload.
3.Spoof as target. It should say in bold letters Spoofed as: PLDA DG-16DS in the new firmware drive properties.
4. Flash as normal.
Just note you are using the Samsung firmware, not lite-on firmware to flash the drive.
If you need any more help I'll be around.

Wasn't sure which firmware was on there already so had to write out and try the activate.iso. Must have been 1.4 because everything worked ok.
Now at 1.6. Thanks for all your help.
Next problem...image passes all abgx360 as green, written out using latest imgburn (same as I've done with all other disks) onto the same DVDs as I've written all other images to (they still work ok). Just comes up with "Play Disk" when I stick it in the drive :(
Also the tray doesn't eject all the time, seems to get stuck but I can't see anything causing it (front is off).

Hmmm. Just read this thread where the guy had the same problem I have. Seems it was the 1.6 firmware he used, it was a beta copy or something.
Here's the JungleFlasher log for my drive update :

OMG, how embarrassing. I'd mixed up the activate and UFC DVDs. The game works fine <cheesy grin>.

Glad to hear it. Rule of thumb for people that burn alot. The more sharpies next to your burner the better, lol. As long as I have a sharpie next to me I label all my discs when they come out, so I don't have to worry about mixing up discs.
BUT, when I don't have a sharpie, I end up having to stick loads of discs in my computer and see whats on them so I can label them...
Have fun with 1.6!

If you play on Live, you should probably purchase a Lite-ON drive to go back into the XBOX 360.

Can't believe I didn't think to suggest that.
