I was given a Wii that was missing the DVD drive so I figured that I could still use it by running games off a USB drive. So I softmod the system using the guide stickied here and also installed the USB loader that was part of the guide. I was able to format the external hard drive to the proper format on my PC and use WBFS manager to add ISOs to it. When I open the USB loader channel, my hard drive is recognized and I can see all the games on the drive, but when ever I load a game all that I get is a black screen. Harvest moon tree of tranquility will load but freezes before the start-up screen displays.

I have tried reformating the drive and transferring the ISOs again, but the problem still exists. I also updated the USB loader using the interface within the USB loader channel. I have also tried both USB slots, but one of them didnt recognize the drive at all

I am using a WII with version 4.0 on it, model number RVL-001 and a maxtor 750 Gb onetouch

if it is relevant, I also cannot get any wiiware to load because the console says there is an error and I need to eject the disc. I am not sure if this is related, but it might be. any suggestions on how I can get this to work?

Thank you

I have read that USB loader works by emulating the drive there for you still need a working dvd drive in the system. The laser could be blown but the dvd drive must operate as usual. I dont know if there is a way around this.

With regards to the wiiware games etc problem, this sounds like you are trying to play a WAD game that is a different region to your wii. To fix this issue i would try using the program freethewads and changing the region of the WAD game to the same region as your wii or just download the WADS that are the same region as your wii :)

did you partition your HDD?The USB loader can only support 500 gig max. Format again to FAT32 primary and create 2 partition, FAT32 on the first and second will be the WBFS, in this way you can used the 1st partion for ROMS or Media files.

On Wiiware try different WADs or run freethewad otherwise you did not install the correct the cios so this can impact iso and wad. Try loading cios13b- google.

I reformated the hard drive, 1 partition 500GB FAT 32 and the second parition being a 250GB WBFS and the games still show up in the USB loader, but will not load. I tried installing cIOS 38 rev 12, 13, and 13b and none of them fix the problem loading games or wiiware. I installed the media player and I can read music and video files from the FAT 32 partition of the hard drive just fine.

I used freethewad on the wiiware to make it region free and I still get the error saying I need to remove the disc. Hopefully I will be getting another Wii to test things out with.

Is there a way to tell what region my Wii is? I am thinking I might of gotten a different region Wii. also, would reformating the system memory and starting over with the softmodding make it work?

try using another USB loader v1.1 also try if you can play DVD iso games? make sure that the DVD is working, borrow from somebody else, other you need to re-install the hack.

To verify your region you can check on the letter of the firmware, U - usa , e-europe , j- japan.

formating only delete's custom loaded channel not sure if it removes the files that was installed.
