How to burn MKV files into a DVD achieving a High Definition resolution?

First of all I would like to say that I am a new member. I am from Argentina and I find this forum really, really good!
Okey... this is my issue:
I use "ConvertX to DVD" to convert MKV files into a DVD. But this software only allows me to get a maximun output resolution of 740*480. And I need a way to get more output resolution (720p or higher).
Ok... Thats all.. Thank you in advance...

DVD is a standard.
The standard is 720*480 (NTSC) and 720*576 (PAL)
If you want to write something greater than that,
it's not a dvd and dvd player wont play it.
On the other hand, you can write any old thing you want if you simply
write it as data - whether you have a device to play it,
(except for the PC) is another matter.

Thank you very much for your quick response.
You say that no table DVD player may play a resolution higher than 720*480. I have a Sony Genezi Home Theater. This player has a HDMI output. And it supports resolutions as 720p and 1080i... How is that possible??? whinch is the purpose of having those max resolution figures if in a DVD I am only able to achieve a 720*480 resolution?

It's probably that the player is able to up-convert the signal
to those higher resolutions - the data on the disk is still
720*480.
It's either a standard DVD payer or it's something else.
I don't know anything about your Sony system, so I can't speculate.

Thank you a lot for your answers. You've clarifyed me some conceps.
Still... If anyone does know something about my system I hope you can explain me why does me system support resolutions as 720p and 1080i if its a DVD player and DVD's max resolution is 720*480.

Looks like a nice system - how does it sound ?
I glanced at the specs, and reviewing the info, it seems that
it is a standard DVD player (not Blu-ray) - it may be capable
of the up-convert to 1080 as I said before, but I didn't see it
mentioned on the product specs.
Have you looked in the product manual to see if this is discussed ?
It does say that it plays Divx directly, so that's useful.
Older Divx players used to be limited to 720*480 also.
Perhaps you can review the product manual, or create one at a higher
resolution and see if it will play it.

It sounds pretty good... Nice sound quality and huge volume level...
Thank you a lot for all your help... I read the manual and found nothing about this issues... There are only stupid explanation of how to conncet the system xD
So... i'm gonna keep up converting with the ConvertX to DVD at a max resolution output of 720/480. It a fair enough quality, but i am still wondering why does the remote control has the option to change de resolution from 480P to 720p to 1080i xD.
I really appreciate your help.

My upconverting player has that on the remote control also.
If you connect the dvd player via HDMI (or on mine component works)
and the TV is capable of displaying such a signal,
and from within the DVD player setup you instruct it to
use component, or HDMI (instead of S-video, for example)
then that button will switch the
signal that the player outputs to those difference formats.
I think they're just up-converting options.

I see... So its only to up convert de quality of the DVD... It makes sense... I played a DVD in 480P and then I switched to 1080i and the rosolution changes... it improves... So.. its like a software (inside the table DVD) than converts the DVD resolution to a higher one?? I din't even know that anything like that exists
