My Wii has YAOSM 1.9 installed and its still at 3.2E but I havn't used it in ages. I never upgraded from 3.2 as I heard it was bad, but then stopped using the Wii and havn't followed the 'scene'.

Today I decided to look at some of the new games (Punch Out, Boom Blox Party) and all give me a black screen.

From what I have read, I simply need to upgrade to 4.0 (and I guess it wouldn't be a bad idea to upgade my YASOM too).. But is this the right thing to do? Should I install anything first whilst I am at 3.2E (Homebrew doesn't really interest me)?

Can anyone shed any light as to the best way forwards.

I look forwards to your replies

Jon

I should point out that I am assuming that my problem is that I am at 3.2E..

When I try and launch the games in question (after using Brickblocker to remove the update) I just get a black screen.

Could it be that I need to do something else to play these games?

You wil lfind all the information about modifying the fimware and upgrading to 4.0 here:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/773505

Also another reason the new games won't work is because you are BrickBlocking the games and the wii system needs that update (kind of like a driver) so it can play the game without a problem.

There is no need to BrickBlock games if you are playing games that are the same region as your wii and there is no problem of them bricking your wii but i would suggest that as your wii firmware is quite old, to update the firmware of the wii first then running the updates on the games if need be :)

Ahh.. All of those guides START with 4.0! Clearly I have missed something.

I was a;lways afraid of updating, but it seems now that 4.0 is the current starting point.

So I should just go from 3.2 to 4.0 and start there.

Not sure what you mean by NOT removing the update.. Surely the update will just install the latest firmware included on the disk.. Once thats done (or if you are on a higher version), there is no need for it, so removing it with Brickblocker does no harm as updating can/will be done using the Wii OS. Once I am on 4.0 (installed through the system menu) surely it won't matter if the updates have been removed from the disk or not?

Boom Blox worked for me after using an app called softchip.

I assume that this needs to be run via the 'Homebrew Channel' and the problem is that I havn't installed this, nor can I be bothered as I hardly ever use the Wii (And frankly fell out of love with it a long time back).

I just want a quick/easy way to play the latest games as/when I want to.

But I will look into 'softchip' to see if its an option!

Cheers

As you have a wii with a modchip and you only want to play backup games then you dont need to softmod it. All the games that come with a system update are not all firmware updates and alot have like drivers that need to be installed in the update so that the game will run correctly.

I would just update the wii's firmware to version 4.0 through the actual wii if possible :)
