hi..i bought a wii (in the UK)..

however i was told it was chipped....

it came with back ups... but i have no idea what the wii or chip are or the machine is or about what chip it has....

( i would presume its a pal..but some people in the UK have bought ther machines from abroad)

what i do know is that i have system 1.0 wii! and i wish to upgrade it to whichever is the best one ...3.2???? maybe???

without bricking my wii... or messing up my chip / mod

ps..i know nothing about wiis or updating....and have only just started reading around..and am fast getting confused

any help would be appreciated on how i should proceed..

a side question...i heard there was a software that you could some how save your wii settings or if you bricked your wii..you could somehow do a system restore..is this tru? where can i find it with instructions? or tell me the name of the software and i will find it myself....etc..

anyway thanks in advance

I would have thought the wii was PAl but you can find out by your serial number on this website:

http://www.wiidrives.com/list

Also there are 2 ways of modding a wii which is by software modification and an actual chip that is installed inside the wii. If you play backup games through some software such as gecko OS etc then its softmodded. If you play the backup game through the wii disc channel then it has a modification chip in inside.

Also regarding your wii's firmware, you should reall-y update to version 4.0 as it is now safe to do so now and you will find the whole guide on how to do this here:

Hope this helps but if you are unsure of anything then just reply in here and someone will be glad to help :)

P.S with you saying your wii is still on firmware v1.0, i would have thought it has an actual chip inside, one of the first kinds such as the wiikey or similar :)

No it doesnt matter what kind of modchip is inside but you only need to softmod the wii if you want to add extra functionality to it such as being able to install wiiware WADS etc or to play backup wii games if you wii doesnt have a modification chip installed inside :)
