As most of you already know, and to the people that do not, XBOX Live will be down for maintenance on Tuesday, June 16th.

It seems that they are preparing for new features, but that might not be all they do. XBOX Live Maintenance could also mean a new ban wave... We don't know for sure, but there is always the thought. Now, none of us know exactly how Microsoft checks for backup games, but here are some things you can do to make yourself feel safer while the XBOX Live Maintenance is being run.
NOTE: It seems that Microsoft does not ban consoles individually, but rather keeps a list of all the flagged consoles and bans them at one time, thus for the name "Ban WAVE". But we cannot be 100% sure of this... Maybe, when the XBOX Live Maintenance is ran, it searches for modded consoles or consoles that have bad game data and bans them that way. We might just never know.
STEP 1 - No Backups
If Microsoft does search for modded consoles that are online at the time, bad game data, or recently played games that come back flagged... It will be best to not play backup games (Online And Offline) until the day the Maintenance is complete.
STEP 2 - Clear The Evidence
If Microsoft does search for bad game data, we want to erase it! Now, we don't exactly know were all of the game data it being held, and if they do search it, we don't know were they search. So here is the best things to do.
-Clear Your Cache
You can do this by going to your HDD, pressing Y, and then pressing these buttons in the following order. X, X, LB, RB, X, X. Then answering yes to the pop-up question.
-Delete 0 Gamerscore Games
Say you played a backup of a game, and really didn't like it... There is a chance that you have a big fat 0 on your achievements for that game. Well, to get rid of that 0 and to get the game off your played game list, do the following. Press the guide button (Large X in the middle of controller), the scroll over to achievements. Highlight the game you want to delete, and press X. Remember, this will only work with 0 gamerscore games.
STEP 3 - Detachment
The final way, is to remove how they could get your data. The day before/the day of the Maintenance, remove your HDD and unplug your Ethernet cable from your XBOX 360. This will ensure that if they do a live reading, that they have no game data to read, and with the Ethernet cable unplugged, obviously no way of reading it.
Some people might think this is not useful, and a complete load of BS, but we don't know what else Microsoft will be doing along with the XBOX Live Maintenance.

I heard ms was going to add the facebook/twitter feature on the 16th. I never knew about that clear cache trick, thanks.

I'm excited about Last.fm being added. The thing about the Facebook and Twitter support, is Microsoft is probably expecting people to buy a chat pad. I have always used a normal USB Keyboard, so I am hoping that Facebook and Twitter still keep the Keyboard support.

That dl full games off marketplace feature looks lame, its just another way for ms to sell hdd's... it would use heaps of download limit.
But I like that 1 vs 100, looks good. I'm suprised ms isn't adding an internet browser.

This is going to be super exciting because im about 98% a sh$tload of people around going to be banned and start complaining about how everything they did was perfect i have 1.6 my backups are perfect blah blah blah....
im ready for whatever M$ does if my boxes get banned so be it...with the money i have saved over these months i could have bought 10 so bleh.

The next dashboard update is scheduled for August, so we'll probably see some of the new features then.
Clearing the cache, deleting 0 gamerscore games and removing your hard drive on the day of the maintenance is pointless. MS log consoles over the course of several months and ban them in short ban waves that usually last a couple of days. If you've got "bad game data" on your hard drive or 0 Gamerscore games, then unless you haven't connected to Live at all since playing those games then that info has already been sent to MS. Think about it - If MS were going to have one day where they try and detect modded consoles, why would they tell everyone that Xbox Live is going to be down, therefore making them far less likely to try and connect to it? It's just pointless speculation.

i just flashed my xbox with iXtreme firmware for the first time like two weeks ago and haven't connected my 360 to Live since. now I'm really paranoid to do it. i want to play Fight Night Round 4 demo so badly. I might just buy a second hard drive for live.

You can still play originals on live and connect to live, just be careful playing backups on live. A new hdd won't stop you from being banned from playing copies though.

I agree, what a stupid addition. I hate those sites. Not just the kids but all the nice viruses that are on them.

i have FB and the only reason i got it was to obtain phone numbers for fellow students at my college as none of us used the college provided dorm phones since they were a pain in the butt. 99% of the people i needed had their cell numbers posted and made their page only visible to wabash college students so joe blow from japan couldnt get it.
now after graduating from there, i only log in about every 3 months to see if if anything i care about has changed (usually it hasnt).

facebook and twitter are both just another myspace, so with those two combined with xbox live? Just creates the ultimate relationship killer.

I do understand you and everyone else not wanting to get banned,but like I have read a hundred and one times"we all know the risk".All the money you have save,should be more than enough to go out and get a new arcade model.I bought myself a back up off of dell for 167.00 buck with tax.So if I get banned,I can still go online.Try and put away ten dollars for every game you have,bet you will have more than enough to buy another 360.I love this site
