Hi guys. I have a Hitachi 78 that has a disk read error. It only reads now and again. Im wanting to spoof it as a BenQ but I cant seem to get Jungleflasher to detect the drive properties. My personal console has a Hitachi 57 drive in and that is detecting ok, its just this V78. All the cables are connected right and I have port32 installed correctly. I havent tried the JungleUSB method yet as I need to purchase a USB to SATA adaptor. I aint really familiar with any other software than Jungleflasher aswell. Any help is much appreciated.

hi guesswho, thanks for the reply. Are you basically saying that this is a common thing with some hitachi drives and that a way to get around it is by using the jungleUSB??

There is no other way of trying to detect the drive using JF??

I was able to detect my drive without it, but sometimes people do go this route and use jungleusb. So if it works, there's no problem with doing that.

Use slax to get it into mode b and it should show up straight away!

Im hoping i described the problem properly. The problem is that I cant get the drive to show up (ie Hitachi v78 serial etc)on the device ID.

the problem isnt to do with windows recognising it

it is to do with Jungleflasher recgnising that the hitachi is hooked up therefore giving me the properties of the drive.

I have a Hitachi V59 that detects fine in JF.
The 78 doesnt

Hope it helps

Yeh but it wont recognise in jungleflasher if its not in mode b, jf wouldnt detect my 78 until i used slax, people have told me that you can use jf to put it in mode b on the portio side of it but that would not work for me, Google easy xbins, extract it, double click on it, It will sign you in, goto xbox360/ firmware/ firmware tools and its in there, burn the iso with imgburn. Now start reboot your pc with slax in pc drive and boot the xbox just after it, obviously connected to sata port, when it says spinning up disk press eject on xbox and your drive should be in mode b, dont switch off xbox coz you will have to do it all again, now reboot your pc and open jf, you should now see your drive where it says drives, use winapi not portio, now dump your firmware some on your desktop, this will dump the orig firmware and drive key, hope it helps

Not sure mate, never used it, like i said if you do exactlty what i said it should be detected, hitachi's can be right little twats, lol. The 78 and 79 are put into mode b differently then the other hitachi drives so maybe thats why your 57 drive is detected!!

I think im gonna try the jungleusb method first but if that fails then slax it is. the JF tutorial says that you can manually put the hitachis in mode B by pressing the mode B button(apart from v79 as that needs a activate iso) but if the drive isnt even detected then you cant put anything in mode b can you, lol

If Jungle Flasher isn't detecting your drive in the drive properties, then you don't have it properly setup. You use PortIO to detect the drive, and then use the Send Mode B command to get it into Mode B. At that point you will be able to flash the drive via WinAPI. PortIO flashing method is only available when a VIA card is reporting code 39 (no drivers installed).

exactly what I was going to ask. If you aren't using a 6421 card, then it probably won't work. The 6421 works on all drives where other chipset works on some drives.

Have fun. It would just work in 2 seconds if you were using the chipset we all use.
