Is it the dvd drive or a chip in the 360?
In other words, what do I have to do to have my 360 not banned anymore?

buy a new 360.

They ban the EEPROM Chip if I am not mistaken.

Get a job at McDonalds for a week. In the time it would take to figure out how to unban your box and then complete the process of unbanning it, you could flip enough burgers to buy a new one.

Its a risk we all take, so we should be ready to shell the money to get back on live with a new box

But really if you do your best bet is to try and sell your modded 360 to someone who doesn't care about live, or keep it for backups and get another for retail games on live.
