STOP! Before you type in all caps with 10 exclamation points saying "use google" or "this has been posted before" or my favorite, "fuck you!," hear me out. This very well may have been posted before, i simply couldn't find my exact question. Now, onto the question...

I have 2 xbox 360's at 2 locations. I am hoping to modify one 360 to allow me to only have to buy a game once. (ie: copy the game, bring the original to the unmodified 360's location and play the backup on the modded one). Now, i know this will work. What Im not sure about is xbox live...

What is the best method for going onto xbox live with a modified xbox? I'm not wanting to go onto live with copied games (backups), but i do want to be able to go on with originals.

As far as i know, these are my options, with the former option being much more popular.

1) Flashing
2) Chipping

If I flash the drive, would I be able to go onto live with original games with a 100% chance of NOT getting banned? Or is going on live with a flashed drive just inherently risky? Also, if i do play backups online, if i stealth patch the games, does that make getting banned impossible?

With a mod chip, could i just buy a switchable one, and then i could just turn it off to go on live?

As far as which method i prefer... I would probably rather chip the box because i wield a mean soldering iron and i have chipped a bunch of wii's and xbox 1's. I suppose flashing isnt bad either, though, as i have flashed a bunch of xbox 1's. If you suggest flashing, any tips? If you suggest chipping (or even if you dont), any suggestions on mod chips?

One last note, i know you newfangled "gen. X" hate reading and such, so i "bolded" the text which matters.

Thanks, all replies appreciated,
XboxMan33

I expected more when I saw the wall of text, but you effectively answered yourself. Before I go any further, ditch the chip idea....just flash the damn drive.

So what exactly is your problem? You have 2 360's....common sense dictates you mod 1, that will solely be used for backups, and you leave the other one untouched, and play LIVE on it without the fear of being banned.

No matter how safe you are, you can be banned. Banned if you only play originals on a flashed drive? NO. Banned if you used properly stealthed games? Of course there is a possibility. If a backup has never touched the disc tray of your flashed 360, you do not have anything to worry about...but then what is the point?

If your console is banned, then it is over. You will need a new 360 if you want to play Live again. So flash one, play your backups. Leave the other alone, and enjoy Live on it.

In the future you may want to not post in such a dick fashion, the people who know their stuff are not children and pay attention...why piss them off?

I hear someone effectively unbanned himself from live by changing the effroms (or epproms, i can't remember exactly) of the banned 360 with an unbanned one... it gives some hope for banned 360's

I read that is only possible on earlier model 360's. If that works out for somebody that is cool, but Arcade's are what, $199? Perhaps it is my laziness (well, it is actually), but I would rather just pick up a new Arcade. My first 360 was a launch Core...what a hunk of crap! No hdmi, no wireless controller, and of course it 3rod'd on me. What you get now for $100 less is awesome.

Im still playing my launch pro and never had 1 single issue with it, sure its got no hdmi and noisy as hell but i figure if its lasted this long it must have been put together well enough to last another couple years.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

As far as the "use one for live, one fore backups" idea, this isnt really an option, because the xbox's are in 2 different states.

I guess ill just buy a new xbox 360 which i use exclusively for backups.

Also, As far as the new eeprom (im assuming thats what you meant chris?), i do have a launch console, so this is a possibility i suppose.

Again, didnt mean to be a dick, and thanks for the responses,

By the time you'd get the flashed 'modified' 360 banned, we'd probably be at the very end of this generation of consoles. Especially since you said you want to make backups of games you purchase yourself.

If you invest in a kreon drive, or a spare 360 drive that supports an 0800FW (all but Hitachi), and make your own backups, you more than likely won't get banned anytime soon.

That method is not worth the hassle, plus you have to get an unbanned one to replace your banned one.

Just be smart, check your games, and use a kreon drive as stated. If you rip all your games with a kreon drive, it is your best chance for playing backups to not get banned.

You took the smart, albeit more expensive route, good on you. Have fun!

Damn I would have just held out until one of the 360s got banned. I know I'd feel like a fool if I had bought a 3rd 360 that I never needed in the first place. I guess some people just got it like that.

PSP-modded, ps2 fat-modded w/fliptop and swap magic, PS3-YLoD, DS Lite w/ Acekard 2i, Xbox 360 - JTAGed with no dvd-rom
