This question may require one of the more tech savvy members on the boards here who have more knowledge in the electronics in the xbox, however any feedback is appreciated.

My set-up i currently use has uses a vga cable hooked to a kvm switch running to an lcd monitor and my sound cables run into a sound blaster panel on the front of my pc. so my sound is played through my pc speakers, which i love this set-up. However yesterday my psu went and i'm left w/o sound (unless i wanna play on my crappy tv). i also use this set up at lans but do not bring my speakers and pc.

My question is, there are adapters that i could get to go from rca to a female 3.5mm (headphone) jack to plug in headphone, but will this work? With out the amplifier in the middle will i still get proper sound and is it possible to damage my xbox from headphones pulling extra power?

Thanks for any help in advance.

A long time ago I got an RCA to headphone jack along with some speakers that were designed for hooking up to consoles or the PC. I, on several occasions, have used that adapter to hook my headphones directly into my 360 with no problems. It's been so successful that several of my friends have built their own by taking RCA and buying size adapters and all kinds of crazy crap to get what they need for it to work.

None of us have reported any damaging side effects and it's likely we ever will. The speakers aren't active so they won't draw power. They're passive, meaning whatever power they get is what they'll use, and if it isn't enough then too bad.

The sound isn't as loud as powered speakers but it works in noisy rooms. I've used it at LAN parties with great success.

Glad I could help. Alternatively, you could always just take some PC speakers and plug them in. They're active and draw power from the wall and then you could even run your headphones off of that if they have a headphone jack. End result? You can adjust your volume.

Edit: That's kinda clunky though. I don't recommend that for traveling gear.

Edit2: Admittedly, my friend also used his PC/PC equipment to power his Xbox sound too. Just giving him credit for helping convince our friends that this works and to buy the cables.
