I was wondering if this happens to anyone else. So far i have been burning games to DVD and playing them through the backup channel which is all fine and dandy but i do notice that the disk drive makes a lot of noise(unlike playing a retail copy).

So i was thinking about making the transition over to USB Loader GX and had some questions.

1) if you run games from an external hdd the wii drive doesnt spin at all does it?

2) i have read about issues with spindown... what is spindown?

3) about how long does it take for WBFS Manager to load an .iso onto an external hdd?

4) how many games does a 500gb hdd hold? i would assume just over 100... am i right?

I figure if i buy a decent size external hdd it would save me from spending $40 on a 100 count spindle of DVDs every month or so. it would almost pay for itself right away.

Just a few minutes.

The full 4.37GB size is not transfered to the WBFS formated HDD. Only the game data is transfered to it. So you will probably get over 200 or more games on a 500GB HDD.

thank you larry for a quick answer. i hope 500gb would be all i need... i better start collecting more games(or leave room for the good games in the future). has anyone else had issues with a lot of noise coming from the wii disk drive while playing a burned DVD? just curious... if its specific to me then i definently want to switch to ext. hdd.

ok i also understand spindown now and the good news is i am a maxtor fan anyways so it looks like i wont be affected.

but i did get another question from the spindown thread you linked to... what is the issue with having WiiConnect24 on? im not too concerned about it but i do like some of the channels that require it.
