Firstly you can install Home Brew Channel through use of Bannerbomb, which works off your SD card. Here is a link. Simply follow the directions and install it on your wii. Next, you need to install some sort of LU64 fix Ive heard about, although it has had half and half results of either bricking a wii or hacking it. Here is a link for that. After installing that, in your apps folder place this Application in there install WADs (channels) by downloading wads, placing them in a WAD folder in the root of your SD card and then booting the Home Brew Channel while your SD card is in your wii and booting the wadmanagerios16 Application, highlighting the wad, click '+' and then clicking install. For a WAD of a backup disc loader, Download this. For a complete Nintendo WAD list, Go here. I hope this clarified things and good luck on your new softmoded wii!

Keep it at 3.4U, as it is more compatible than 4.0

ok now im stuck..
so i followed a lu64 fix guide posted on wiihacks and my lu65 is all up and running homebrew and all described in the lu64 fix guide..
(1) Copy contents of LU64fix.rar to SD card.
2) Install IOS16 with Wad Manager
3) Run Custom Wad Manager and use this to install LU64.wad
4) Restart the Wii
5) Run LU64CIOS and select 'Network Install' only. Wad install DOES NOT WORK!
6) Restart Wii, and now i should be able to install DVD/USB backup loaders (but i dont know how)
so it's safe to say im very confused as to what to do now as far as installing the usb loader that i can back up my games and play them with..could you possibly help me. here is a screenshot of my SD card thus far......

essentially im lost with such a hodgepodge of info out there and you seem legit and know what youre doing, and all im trying to do is use my wii to backup my games onto my external usb 320gb and then be able to load them from there as well :)

You could give USB Loader GX a try.
You can get it from here http://usbloadergx.koureio.net/downloads/revisions
Latest revision is 542.
You can download the 542 dol from there.
It doesn't come with the icon.png (the picture that displays next to a app in the homebrew channel) and meta.xml (the information that displays) but you can download these from within the program.
Anyway make a folder in your Apps folder called usbloader_gx
Inside that folder you should put the 542 file that you got from that download, just rename it to boot.dol

The LU64 fix should serve as your cIOS.
You will get a black screen when you try to do stuff if you install one of the cIOS36es

ok so i put the 542 file in the sdcard in the folder in apps for the usbloader and remained it boot.dol, and everything was going fine i formated a disc like usbloader said backuped my coppy of wii sports and nothing showed, no game no nothing, at first it said 98.6gb free of 245gb, copyed the game, then tried looking for it and no luck, then i restarted my wii went back to homebrew channel to the sd card and theres no usbloader button and i had to reinstal it all, but this time it said 245gb free of 245gb and i went to do something and got a black screen

If your having problems RIPPING (backuping) the game to your USB, then simply use a DVD dumper application, Such as this one and rip the game FROM the disc via local area connection WiFi to your computer. Simply run the program, select WiFi dump, and then when it displays your wii's IP adress (mine was 192.168.0.7) go to your computer and type it in on your browsers adress bar (firefox, etc.) and then select download ISO (or some have 'Wii SL' and 'Wii DL' options, select Wii SL). It will rip the ISO of the game directly to your hardrive where you choose to rip it to at a rate of 600kbps to 1Mbs. It is in no way using your internet, so it should be done in about 3 hours. After which, you plug in your USB that your using, open it up with EASEus partitioner or some other program and put the ISO on the drive. Uplug, put in wii, boot up USB loader, and boom - your playing.

well the issue isnt really ripping, but ripping and reading, it seems as if usbloader just doesnt work with my lu65, for the last 30+ hours of my vacation ive been trying and trying to get usbloader to work with my LU65 and like i said it has homebrew on it also i have some emulators on there which work great..but usbloader hates me. i followed a lu65 fix guide and i think it worked and it said it did but im not quite sure why usb loader was always giving me a black screen, im almost to the point where im gonna say F it and move on. My question is, should i keep trying to get usbloader to work or is it worth while to go ahead and buy the Drivekey modchip to play backup games (money is a non issue), and if i do that whats the easiest way to back up games (like using a wii or using an external drive etc), ive looked everywhere for answers but theres so few answers out there for LU65 users. if i do use this network backup method and then i burn the iso with imgburn which i use with my 360 backups, what would i need for my wii to read the backups, modchip (like the drivekey above?) or softmod? but which softmod

(New USB loader posted below you could try)
Alright, I would first suggest to keep trying to get USB loader to work because your are almost there and Mod chips are a pain to install. But, if all else fails, then go ahead and get that mod chip if money is not an issue and use This guide to install it. Later in the post I'll link you to another USB loader you can try and see if it works for you. Otherwise, if you do go for the mod chip then yes, backup the ISOs using the network method and burn using image burn on 1/2 the speed depicted on the DVD your using to burn (by the way, Verbatim DVD-Rs are the most compatible). Its up to you whether you want to get one, it would end up being more effort to install it then it would be to get the USB loader to work. Any who, here is a link to another USB loader you could try:
Click to go to download. ~ (Here is also a Mirror of the download)
Just install through the WAD manager and then boot the channel.
Hope this helped, I'll be on later tommarow to see if it worked.
Fiilex.
