Hi, I have a backup of mario kart wii and punchout that i am trying to play. I got both of them to work utilizing the twilight hack to get Homebrew Channel and using softmii v2.1.1. i put the iso to the dvd and got to play mario kart and it worked perfectly for around 2 hours or so. Then i put in punchout and realized that the disc kept skipping but i still got it to work.

After about 5 minutes, the game completely froze, and when i reset, the disc could not be read anymore and it told me

An error has occurred.
Press the EJECT Button, remove the
Game Disc, and turn the power off,
Please reda the Wii Operations Manual
for maore information.

I tried the mario kart disc and it was also the same result. The wii would keep making clicking noises to signify that it is trying to read the game before it just ends up showing a black screen with the same words. DRE. refer to wii instruction manual for help, etc.

I tried downloading wiigator 0.3g to play the backup games, but it also would not load and it says error, DVD Identify Failed. I don't know what is wrong. Could it be that the disc i burned the games on isn't reliable (I'm using an HP DVD-R 16x disc, by the way)? Should I buy a better type of dvd? Or should i upgrade my wii since i am using 3.2U right now.

Any ideas? Much thanks if anyone can respond to my problem or if someone needs additional info to help, i will try my best to provide anything else.

Try better media.

DVD-R Verbatim or Tayio Yuden are most recommended.

Could also be your drive took a dump on you.

It is so much easier using USB Loader now days. Then you don't have to worry about backup disc.

so it's definitely not wise to send the wii to nintendo, right? what with homebrew on it and all...

i can't purchase a driver because my current laptop can't install the lg drive. its not compatible with it, so am running out of ideas. Worst comes to worst, I might need to buy another wii.

is there any other option besides a last resort option of buying a new wii? thanks if anyone can suggest something.

You can buy a drive replacment for the Wii. It isnt hard to replace them.

You could also download the ISO game files and put them on a USB Device and use USB Loader to load it.
