So I heard there was something with the new lite on drives from consoles manufactered in 09. Is this true that they are unmoddable?
I am using JF with 1.51 iXtreme (waiting for full 1.6 [for hitachi] release before the upgrade) and the CK3 V2 with Probe.
Will I have any issue modding a new LiteOn drive?

It was a firmware revision. The first Lite-ON firmware revision was 74850C and the new firmware revision is 83850C. According to other forums, the key can be dumped and the drives can be flashed.

I just did a Arcade with a Liteon built in Feb 09 and the sticker on the drive said it was made Dec 08. No issues.

Good to know. I'm about to purchase a third console and was considering a used one because of the new LiteOn drives.

Just reading from the other forums, everybody said that they could dump the key off of the 83850c Lite-ON but this update seems to say otherwise. Quote: >> Great news from Team HyperX....
The LiteOn revision 83850c that has been mainly coming out of repair centers in europe has been fully dumped. More details will come as the firmware is fully decrypted, but at the very worst we have a work-around if all known backdoors are disabled. A solution for this model will NOT be released to public until this version becomes mainstream. E.g. is being shipped commercially with new xbox360's.
I'm wondering, has anybody ran into these 83850c Lite-ONs and had any issues?

Yes I have come across this problem . The new revision Liteon is being sent out in repaired consoles from MS . Key cannot be extracted using normal method . We have to wait for HyperX to come up with a solution .

Thank you for confirmation. I hadn't really got a straight answer. I hope progress on the 83850C firmware is going good.

The firmware is being decrypted right now and Team HyperX is looking for other ways to get the key. If all other methods fail, there is still a workaround the team has yet to announce.

Hmm I am wondering if it is worth it to get the DVD key from the drive but since the console is a RROD they might replace the DVD drive and the motherboard huh...

I sent in a RRoD console and the replaced the motherboard and put in a new Lite-ON. So you can send it in, once you get it back, dump the key.

The RROD I have now is a fresh stock Hitachi warranty sticker in tact never opened or tampered with. If I send it in to get a new one I'll receive a LiteOn with the new firmware revision which cannot be flashed.
What I was wondering is if it was worth opening this console and getting the key from the Hitachi drive and then sending it in but I figure they'll send me a completely new console so getting the key would be completely irrelevant.
But I am in Canada so do you think I should still try and send it in?

I had the same thing. An Elite with a Hitachi. I didn't open it before I sent it in. I'm assuming the just replaced the motherboard. If they did fix it, they reprogrammed the motherboard to accept the new Lite-ON drive they added in. So if they fix the motherboard, I bet they will change the key anyway.
There is a workaround for 83850C firmware, just hasn't been released by Team HyperX yet. So not all hope is lost. I'm optimistic that they will find another way to dump the key.

Dont let this stop you from sending in your xbox, this work around will be made public with in the next few days to a week.
im not 100% on this but so far this is what I have read:
To flash the new drive you extract the key like normal, you go to the advanced tab and enter in the the serial data from the laser and pcb board.

You cannot extract key with normal methods . This new revision is completely different to the last . Until complete saturation of this new liteon occurs is when the new method will be released by THX .
