Hey so I've searched around for this but haven't really found the answer. Anyways:
I softmodded my wii yesterday using the new softmod guide, updating to 4.0 and everything. I've become somewhat nervous that somehow my wii may brick so I was wondering if after installing everything (HBC, USB loader, Backup Launcher, ETC..) I can still backup whatever bootmii backs up to save you from a bricked wii. I basically need to know how to do it as I'm pretty bad with this stuff, and if I can still do it even though I have softmodded my wii. Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

So when using the guide should I skip installing DVDx and Homebrew channel since I already have those?

So I installed it but it doesn't show up in HBC. It only said I could install it as an IOS. Whats the deal?

If it installed as an IOS make sure you have HBC 1.0.3 installed.

it should then be somewhere in the HBC menu.

Should i just re-install the HBC 1.0.3 over the original one?

OK so I installed bootmii as an IOS and backed up the NAND to the SD card. Two questions though. During the process my wii had maybe 5 "bad blocks" that were "factory bad blocks" does that matter? Also how do I make it so it boots to bootmii now so if I brick I can recover? I read something about preloader but I don't really know how to do this. Thanks for the help.

Have a look at this guide to see how to setup and use preloader.

I know when i backed mine up it took a long time. There is a large pause at the beginning that will make you think it has frozen up. Be Patient. It has to get the keys it says and that takes a bit. After that you will see a little green block begin to move across the on screen grid covering everything it passes over in green if they are good blocks. I had a few black ones which apparently means bad factory blocks.
When it finishes it will verify the backup and then you are finally done. IT makes a file that is about 500 MB so make sure your SD is large enough to store the resulting backup nand.bin file bootmii creates.
The whole process takes about 15-20 minutes if I remember correctly.

I questioned this also and have just posted in another thread about this very thing. Now if after your Guide is complete and it is safe to install the BootMii. Should your guide then state as a highly recommended last step gust before the optional section to now install BootMii?

I keep browsing and forming new questions....So I'm trying not to flood the forum with dozens of post.
With the cIOS trouble and BootMii that is in question. If a person does install BootMii then needs to install a cIOS. Can they uninstall BootMii, Install the cIOS? Then reinstall the BootMii software?

I just installed bootmii first before i attempted the softmod. Even though the softmod guide author commented that it might cause issues with installing a cIOS. I figured if it bricked the system i could still use bootmii to repair and worse case was the softmod would not work.

Well it worked fine anyway. Even though I installed Bootmii first before doing the softmod the install process went fine. I even did the GC hack, the load discs from the disc channel hack, and got the usb loader up and running.

The only problem i had was the micro sd memory card to adapter we were using would not allow bootmii to load. It made me think it did not install to boot2 even though it said it could and installation completed fine. I ended up installing it as an ios also and it loaded fine via preloader and the homebrew channel. after changing to a 4gb kingston sd card bootmii loaded fine without the need for preloader and the HBC.

due to the issues we had with the first sd card I did uninstall bootmii, and it said it uninstalled fine. I then reinstalled as both boot2 and as an ios at that point since i didnt think of the sd being the issue. All worked ok for me at least.

It seems as though I installed bootmii as part of the boot process but can't find bootmii in a channel or how to access it?
Am I trying to access bootmii the wrong way?
Thanks

If you installed bootmii as boot2 it should come up as soon as you turn your Wii on. But this is only if there is a folder in the root of your SD card called bootmii and that folder has the files armboot.bin and ppcboot.elf in it.

When you first installed bootmii from the hackmii installer there was an option to prepare the sd card. That option is what places that bootmii folder with those files in the root of your SD card. Also for bootmii to come up, the folder has to be named bootmii. If it is named something else then it won't come up. You can run the hackmii installer again and prepare the sd card if you want. You could also download that bootmii folder from somewhere on there internet. I'd bet there are several downloads of it around.

Installing bootmii as an IOS is what gives you the option to launch bootmii from the homebrew channel. If you install bootmii as an IOS, when you press the home button in the homebrew channel one of the options will be to launch bootmii. There is no problem with installing bootmii as both boot2 and as an IOS.

Thank you sir! I'm sure that is the problem since I didn't have my SD card in! thanks again

The files are automatically placed on the SD Card when installed as Boot2. There should be a Bootmii folder in the root of the SD card.

The prepare SD Card is incase you delete the Bootmii folder and do not have a backup of it. So you can run it to install the proper files back onto the SD card so Bootmii will boot again as if you never deleted or removed the Bootmii folder.
