When you plug the Lite-On into the xbox does the power light flash?

You can use the Lite-on, you just have to spoof it as a samsung. Basically, in JF, dump your Samsung key(or can use the original if you have it) And spoof firmware as you normally would, just use the Lite-on Iextreme fw. That will spoof it as a samsung drive with your xbox's drive key and it should work perfect.

PS. Just take note that although no one knows exactly what can get you banned, it is accepted by many that spoofing a drive might be visible by MS and can get you banned.

Well with a flashed drive there are no guarantee's anyway, but the best thing to use would be another Samsung drive like the one that broke. And as far as the Samsung not reading a disc, does it spin the disk but just never reads? If so, you might be able to just replace the laser, cheaper than buying a new drive.

If you want a cheap Samsung, here is a refurb for $25 or best offer.

http://cgi.ebay.com/XBOX-360-SAMSUNG-MS2...93%3A1|294%3A50

States that he cleaned it out, replaced belt and adjusted the laser.

Here is a Samsung laser for $7 with free shipping.

If I was in your place, I would buy a new drive or laser and flash the Lite-On with 008 FW and use it for making backups.

Flash it either with dedicated 0800 FW(found on xbins) or the new 1.6 Iextreme. The 1.6 has built in 0800 support so it can be used either in the xbox or for ripping.

008 Firmware does not require a key. But, what I would do just to be on the safe side... I would get the original key from your Samsung, and spoof that to the Lite-On with iXtreme v1.6, that way you could use it for backups and if your 2nd Samsung messed up some how you would already have a replacement drive with your key on it.

It wouldn't be hard at all, using the same process as I stated above for the Lite-on. But the end result would be the same, it might, or might not, increase your likelyhood of getting banned.

Basically, no one knows exactly how MS bans people, or what they can detect on their end. When you spoof your drive, they might be able to detect that it is a hitachi "acting" like a samsung. Same goes for Lite-on or BenQ. But they might not either. I'm sure plenty of people have done it, but no one can say for sure.

Ban for a spoofed drive would be so stupid. People do have the rights to repair their own console. If the drive is shot, you should be able to spoof to another drive legally.

Stupid yes, but I don't want to be the one to tell someone it is safe if its not. The fact is I, nor do I think anybody, has any idea what all can get you banned, so thats my little disclaimer, "It may, or may not, get you banned".

Like I said, I'm pretty sure people play on live with a spoofed drive and are not banned, but that doesn't mean it won't come. But at the same time, it may never come to pass either.

I do all the time. Wasn't dogging you at all. I am just saying if people get banned for a spoofed drive would be stupid. I have spoofed drives for people that don't even play backups. How fair would that be? I don't think it would be right for some to have to buy an new xbox just because of a bad drive. That would be like DELL trying to make you buy a new computer because the DVD drive doesn't work anymore. Man, what would that do to the IT world?

Dell probably would try to sell you a new computer because your dvd drive is dead if you couldn't go pick up a Lite-On Dvd+RW DL burner at Wally World for $25 bucks, :-)

I try to, but with some of the deals on computers are hard to pass up. Just bought a PC for $200, has a decent case, an ok MB but everything else is pretty good quality. I take out what I don't want, throw in what I do and I've got a good reliable computer for on the cheap.

About the only thing I don't like is the custom towers on computers you buy. For my HTPC I had no interest in the card reader that came with it, but since the face of the tower was made for it, theres no point in taking it out either.
