I just bought my wireless adapter and I was prompted to update the console to join LIVE. I want to confirm if it's ok to do this on a modded Xbox 360 without risking the ability to play my backup games, among other issues.

If you have iXtreme on the console, just update.

You sure? I feel like this is a way for Microsoft to brick the console, but pleeease lemme know otherwise.

Yeah, I'm sure, everything will be OK. We all play online here and have to have the mandatory updates MS pushes out.

Thanks for the reassurance :) So I guess I will go on with the update and finally get LIVE. Sorry to bother you though but one more question... so the only way for the modded console to get bricked is if Microsoft catches my stealth-patched games online, right? (which should be a small chance I hope).

Thanks in advance leerage for your quick responses!

Your console does not get "bricked". MS just bans your console from Live. You can still play your backups games on it but cannot use any Live functionalities. Your Xbox Live Account will not be banned though so you can just purchase another console and transfer your account onto it to continue playing on Live.

The firmware team always tries to stay one step ahead of MS. What is known that MS sends a challenge to the XBOX 360 drive and the drive responds with a response. The firmware will fix any bad angles on the fly to make sure MS doesn't get a response they aren't expecting. That data has been captured and analyzed and that is what is known. As for how MS decides to ban people is a mystery.

People say MS knows how has modded their console and who hasn't. People also say that the XBOX 360 logs data internally even if you play offline and then sends the data back to MS when you connect to XBOX live. All those claims have yet to be proven or disproven.

Thanks so much you guys.

@ NDarkness: Thanks much for explaining the difference between bricked and banned (cuz I would much rather be banned than have a bricked console).

@ leerage: Once again, thanks for you help!

So I actually did use the wireless adapter and the update seemed to have been just a new interface (the NXE I believe is the name). Tomorrow I will use my LIVE subscription card and activate it, and hopefully you guys will be there for any possible further questions :) Thank you so much!

Just make sure you stealth check all your games before you play them and never play a game before its release date
