hi everyone i recently soft modded my wii and it works great now, now the wife is looking for some old games for it like pac land or paper boy i know you can download alot of games on pirates bay but im not to sure if they will work on my wii and will the wii controler work while playing the game or do i have to get a diffrent controler to play the game

There are many emulators for the Wii.

I would use the homebrew browser to download the emulators that you like and then get ROMs for them.

Just going by what you posted:

I went to Wikipedia and went to the Paperboy game wiki page.
I saw that Paperboy was released for Arcade, NES, Master System, and Gameboy.
I know just off the top of my head that there is a emulator for NES, Master System, and Game Boy. Check them out.

Pac Land was released for a bunch of consoles.
There are also emulators for these consoles.

As long as the Virtual Console game is the same region as your system or marked as region free then it should install fine on your system. Just use WAD manager to install the VC game.

NES VC games and WiiWare games can use the Wiimote to control.

SNES and N64 VC games need a Game Cube Controller or a Wii Classic Controller to play.

HERE is a nice list of VC games that are out at this time.
