OkayMy friend modded my Wii for me, and now all im trying to do is fix this error 002. I was told to download cIOS36_rev8 and install it using my SD card through the Homebrew channel. Now the only problem is that I have no idea how to install this. When I boot up, it does not appear in the Homebrew Channel. Maybe I put it in the wrong folder on my SD card? Does anyone know where to put the file in? The file I downloaded is called (cIOS36_rev8-Installer.dol. Where do I copy this file onto my SD card? Would I put it in the apps folder? Can someone please help me????

Thanks

Shot in the dark here mate, rename the file to boot.dol and put it in a folder titled something like cIOS36 (or any title you like) in your apps folder on your sd card.

run it from HB channel

Thank you so much...Ok I did as you said and I found the installer file. I started the installation by selecting "WAD Installation" like the read-me said to. Then the installation said Reading "IOS36-64-v1042.wad...Error! (ret=-1). What kind of error is this and how do I fix it????

Thanks

If you have the internet on your Wii you should do network install.

You got Error! (ret=-1) because you selected Wad install and it was looking for the wad and you didn't have it on your SD card so it couldn't find it.

With network install the necessary files are downloaded to your Wii.

If you want to do Wad install you will need the file that it was searching for IOS36-64-v1042.wad

Allright I just tried to do the network installation and another error occured. It said Initializing Network...Error! (ret=-116). Now what kind of error is this??? But i asked a friend and he said that the issue could be my SD card. I have a Sandisk HC 4gb card, and he said that the card is incapatable with .wad files, is this true???

Thanks

I have a SanDisk 8Gb SDHC card that works fine with wads and everything else. Only thing is that the homebrew browser reports the remaining space incorrectly.

What version of the Homebrew Channel do you have.

You should update to at least 1.0.1 or 1.0.3

Edit: And you do have the internet on your Wii right?

I have version 1.0.1, and I just checked my SD again and that IOS36-64-v1042.wad file IS in the wad folder, I don't know what to do. I cannot perform the network install either. That Error! (ret=-116) keeps on coming up.

Thanks

The wad install should work if the wad is there. I'm not sure why it isn't.

-116 means that the installer doesn't have sufficient access to the network. You didn't say if your Wii was connected to the internet. Can you use the internet channel? Can you play games online? Can you go to the shop channel and successful do a network connection test?
The reason I said at least 1.0.1 or 1.0.3 is because versions before that have network issues and 1.0.2 has issues with SDHC cards.

OK finally!!!!!!!!!!! For some odd reason, the internet would not connect so I went into the network settings and it asked me to update my Wii, and I chose not to because I heard if you update the Wii, then you will have reinstall all the programs again. So I then connected to the internet and did the Network Installation and it worked!!!!!!! But I still do not know why it cannot read .wad's, this is very odd because all of the wad files are on my SD card. Even when I open up the Wad Manager through HB, it still comes up with errors, but nevertheless, The Error #002 ceases to be!!!!!! Thank You so much for your help!

Thanks

You never flash any of your wii data from the network. It should be done through solid state data such as flash.

What do you mean? Why shouldn't you use the network to install CIOS? It worked perfectly. But for some odd reason, my Wii always has errors when dealing with wad's.

Thanks

Why? What if your router goes down while you are flashing a very important piece of your hardware. The cios is vital for all of your basic input and output system. Installing programs is fine but flashing any kind of cios through a wireless transmission is not safe. Hence the reason why router companies recommend downloading firmware through a hard wired connection.

That is just my advice dude.

What error does wad manager give you when you try to install a wad?
And your wads are in a folder called wad (just wad, nothing else) in the root of your SD card right?

Also it is safe to install cIOS using the network. You aren't flashing anything. This isn't a 360 drive. I think what Wiiman meant to say is if you were trying to change an IOS. cIOS is different, you can delete cIOS if you want because it is a custom ios based on one of Nintendo's original IOSes. They install in the 200 range. You want to be careful with legitimate IOSes which currently are 61 and below. Finally it's possible for you connection to die or the power to go out even while doing an official Nintendo update over the network.

The error said Reading IOS36-64-v1042.wad...Error! (ret=-1). I am positive that this wad is in my wad folder in the root of the SD card. It's just so peculier that it will not read that wad. It doesn't even let me go into my wad manager, the same Error! (ret=-1) comes up whenever I try to get into the manager.

Thanks

When you use a Network install the files are downloaded first (to a temp directory) then installed. So you are safe to use a Network install. It isn't like the files are being downloaded and installed at the same time.

If your router or Internet goes down during the download part it will just error out and stop and exit without installing anything. After all the files have been downloaded the Network part is finished and the flashing will begin.

This is pretty much the rule for all products that have firmware updates. It will download the files first before flashing. Power failure or turning off the system during flashing is what you need to avoid.

The reason your getting ret-1 for WAD Install is because the IOS36-64-v1042.wad should be at the root of your SD card. Not in the wad folder.

I just did as you said, but when I go into my wad manager and select Wii SD Slot, it says "initializing libfat, please wait...ok!" then it says "retrieving device contents, please wait...Error (ret=-1)" this brings me back to the point when my friend said it could be that my SD card is incapatable with wad files.

Thanks

Holy cow CIos36_rev8 is old as my grandmother fart! The most updated one is cIOS36_13b but the most stable one is cIOS38_13a so I will guide you into downloading that)

Do the step by step on this guide http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1959860/775222/

Then you will be able to play backups

1) Backup Launcher is old. Neogamma is new http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=158884
1A) to get the Neogamma Channel http://www.gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=165485
2) Superdump (Requires homebrew) dump your game in 30 minutes. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/780900
3) Make your Wii skip updates! Use preloader 0.29 and enable skip updates. http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Preloader
4) Scared of Bricking your Wii? Make an NAND backup! Install BootMii http://bootmii.org/install/
