Hey guys, im totally new to this flashing thing stuff. I started wanting to play burned games on my xbox 360 yesterday, so i did a few googling for about 6 hours. I'm still trying to understand things, and i opened up my xbox today and i found out i have a Hitachi 79FL. I read in some old tutorial that it was physically impossible to flash it without any hardmods.
Are there any new methods or ways to flash this drive or whatever to start playing burned games without the use of purchasing any mod kits or hardmodding chips?
If so, can you tell me the things i need?
And yes..i did use the search button and attempted googling but the tutorials i find there are way to advanced for me. Right now...im starring at the hitachi 79FL. What steps are next for me to get this flashed? Is it possible?
having just re-flashed my 79FL to iX 1.5.1 yesterday, the big hassle is finding an older PC that the SLAX 2.1 boot cd will actually work to put the drive into Mode B.
as for prep, you need
a compatible sata controller,
the slax 2.1 patched boot cd,
the 79 unlock cd,
the current ixtreme firmware in the firmware folder of jungleflasher,
and a working windows XP/vista PC.
for the hitachi 79, the onboard SATA works fine, i.e. the JM360 SATA controller on my ASUS P5k-E motherboard.
probably best to check your RAID/SATA controller works in SLAX, i suppose, since that's primarily what you need the VIA controller for, to get into Mode B to access the firmware.
For the Hitachi 79FK/79FL, AFAIK you can't send the Mode B info with a connectivity kit, wires, or via the VT6421 controller.
(perhaps there's the same Mode B code in slax 6.1.1, haven't checked.)
So, connecting up the drive, booting into SLAX, and setting mode B, i.e. double-eject to eject and double-eject to load the tray, etc. is the biggest hurdle to begin with.
after that, jungleflasher. the only glitch that i think they need to fix is the cryptic master checksum warning you get in JF, but as long as you have dumped the flash, restored to it's "original" and then patched to the version of ixtreme you chose earlier, it all works.
if your hardware is incompatible, the pc might refuse/crash/halt after doing the 79 unlock, or reading the firmware, in which case, you need to switch hardware or use the VIA SATA controller instead of the onboard SATA controller. or get someone who's done it before.
