hi guys,

i tried flashing my xbox elite yesterday and failed miserably... basically as soon as i attempted to put the elite into mode b, my damn desktop froze and caused me to get the e65 error on my xbox!

i did not even get to the flashing stage at all!

all i want to know is, is there any known solution to this, or should i just throw my xbox in the bin?

cheers

If it froze in the middle of flashing, you Hitachi is probably bricked. Does the drive eject?

So were you able to dump the original firmware? You really can't ruin a drive until you try to flash it. What exactly "went wrong"?

ok basically i followed the jungle flasher tut down to T...

i connected the xbox drive via sata to the via pci card, i then opened jugnleflasher on my desktop, once opened i attempted the 'half disc tray' method to get xbox into mode b. i used the 'take out the poer lead from drive' technique. once i did that, i clicked on the 'mtk flash' tab and noticed that the device was not being detected.

sio i tried that 'half tray' method again hoping this time the drive will be detected.... but alas, my b****d of a desktop froze on me while the xbox disc tray was half open.

and it stayed open.... so i restarted my desktop, turned off my xbox and switched it back, only to be welcomed by 1 red light and the E65 error.

t1kk is gutted :(

So do you have a Hitachi drive? If so, you don't use the "half open trick" to get it into Mode B.

Look at the top of the DVD drive and what model/ROM version does it say?

Can you eject or close with the connectivity kit, or are you not using one?

Open up the BenQ drive. On the bottom side is a bar, push it in and then pull the tray all the way out.

Leave the tray open and reassmeble the drive, and then try that out in the 360, see if you can close the drive now.

right... still no joy. i have the tray open, and i started up my xbox, the centre light sonctantly blinks, then the top left hand quadrant flashes a green light for a split second, then the bottom right hand quadrant starts flashing red constantly.

looks serious

Quote:
E65: DVD Drive Error.... DVD Timeout, Wrong firmware, dvd is without f/w chip, etc. This can also be caused by the tray not being fully closed on boot.
Make sure both ends of the power cable to the drive and the motherboard are plugged in. Did you happen to plug the power cable in upside down?

all cables are correctly plugged int. i too extra care in ensuring i did not put the power cable into teh drive upside down. funnily enough, i was just fiddling around with the tray and eject button and it closed! but then it wouldnt open again so i pushed the bar on the dvd drive in again to release it.

right it seems i have had some kind of break through!

i connected the sata cable from the via pci card to the xbox dvd drive and it seems the xbox starts up perfectly, i can negotiate my way around the dashboard with no issues. but the centre light in the middle does not stop blinking, and the dvd tray does not move at all, if it is open it wont close and vice versa.

also when i start up the xbox, although it boots up fine, my dekstop freezes when i do so!

so far it seems like it can be a number of things:

the sata cable on the xbox mobo which is connected to the xbox drive seems to have become faulty?

or the actual drive is buggered. because although the xbox boots up, the eject button is not working at all.

maybe the xbox might even be stuck in mode b??? if it is stuck in mode b, if my desktop didnt freeeze everytime i boot up the xbox, i may of had a chance of working some magic on it through jungleflasher.

either that or this is some completely new fault for the books!

If the drive closed, it is still responsive. It sounds like a connection problem with power some where. Keep messing around with it, you should be able to get it back to life.

Can you check the connections on the inside of the BenQ drive.
