You can't get to the homebrew channel? I'm guessing that the channel that was on your system menu isn't there anymore?
Just install it again.

And the reason Preloader is still there even though you formatted is because an install of preloader patches the system menu IOS (in the case of 4.0, IOS60)
Reformatting the System doesn't do anything to the IOSes.
If you installed cIOS it would also still be there after a System format.

What happens when you try to install the homebrew channel using bannerbomb and the hackmii installer?

Which game did you try that wants you to update?
Specifics are good.

ok i follow these steps
Go to WII SETTINGS>DATA MANAGEMENT>CHANNELS>SD CARD TAB

You will get a message saying "Nothing is inserted in the SD Card slot".

At this time insert the SD card into the Wii System.

You will get a message saying "Load Boot dol/elf?" Select YES.

This will start the Hackmii installer.

Press 1 to continue at the warning screen.

then it wont go any further gives a reason but not quick anoth to read it.

sonic olypics was the game

is there any way to return the wii back to factory setting getting rid off everything that has been put on the wii

So were you able to enter the hackmii installer? Did you see where it says press 1 to continue?
And if not did you follow the rest of the directions at http://bannerbomb.qoid.us/

Did you use bannerbomb when you first installed the homebrew channel?

yes i saw the bit where it says press one to continue then the screen changes like it did the first time i installed homebrew then it says somthing and disappears.

i followed the guide after updating to 4.0e
but problems arose after installing preloader.
surly there is a way of deleting preloader and everything else then start again .

i have found this The simplest and safest way to remove preloader is to reinstall the System Menu using AnyRegion Changer or a WAD installer

but how do you do it.

Are you using the newest hackmii installer version 0.2?

Which you can get from here http://bootmii.org/download/
At least trying downloading it again and replacing the file on your SD

And whoa deleting preloader? That's dangerous stuff right there.
As I mentioned Preloader patches the system menu.
Think of it like this. You're trying to save someone but some evil creatures has fused with them. Unless it's a desperate circumstance you aren't going to kill the person you are trying to save to kill the evil creature as well.

To get rid of preloader you would have to install an unpatched version of the IOS over it.

I'm not quite convinced that preloader is your problem either.

If it was originally a .dol leave it as a .dol file and if it was originally a .elf file leave it as a .elf file. Just make sure that it is either boot.dol or boot.elf

That's good to hear.

So you have 1.0.1 now. It isn't bothering you to update to 1.0.3?

And also up to date as in how?
Is it Mario & Sonic at the Olympics that you don't want to being asking you for an update or something else?

You don't absolutely need the new homebrew channel.

You can likely follow which ever guide you were talking about.

But I am not quite sure what you are trying to do. Are you trying to run backups? Your first post says that you were trying to get homebrew back.

So you didn't mean the homebrew channel when you said you wanted to get homebrew back? Which homebrew are you talking about? and where did it go?

Also you can follow the guide that is stickied guide in this forum.
