Yes, the VIA 6421 is correct. I didn't realize you had already order it. The reason that I was talking about the ICH9 is that you might be able to flash the Lite-ON with your onboard SATA. At least you will have a fail safe if the ICH9 ends up not working because the VIA is guaranteed to work.

Ah. I see.
Well I would rather have the SATA be external anyways. Like I said in my first post, when I built this PC it was my first build and not a whole lot of thought went into placement of things and I have a BUNCH of lights set up on the side case so when I take it off it can only come off a little bit otherwise the cords get stretched and I don't feel like unplugging them all in order to get to the MOBO.
OH! and one more thing!
I'm not even sure if all my onboard SATA ports work because I recall having to switch my HDD around to find one that did.

Officially ordered the probe and connectivity kit. Hopefully this isn't going to be $80 down the drain :(
Total cost to mod it so far: $120 or 2 new xbox games

The probe and connectivity kit will pay for themselves. If you got friends with 360s you can do theirs for a price, and make all your money back and more!

Are you wondering if it can burn 360 back-up copies?
I checked and it can write to Dual Layers. Just make sure to get yourself some Verbatim Dual Layers (made in Singapore).

Haha yeah sorry I was wondering if it could burn them. Buying a new DVD drive isn't that big of a deal but I am glad to hear mine works. I already ordered some verbatims off of newegg a couple of days ago and checked the reviews to make sure they were the right ones.
Edit:
I just got this email :(
dear customer,
The probes have just ran out of stock would you be interested in waiting as they will arrive by july 3rd please let us know if you wish to wait?thanks

Should I just wait it out or go ahead and get it from somewhere else?

You might be able to find somewhere else that has them in stock. I guess it is up to you.

They are in stock at consolesource.com so it looks like I will be getting it from them.
Would you recommend any of the special fans for the 360? Like the talismoon or XCM core cooler. I figured since my 360 is going to be open already I might as well add something else to it thats going to (hopefully) benefit it.

Probably a really stupid question but I could use a quick answer.
I just installed the VIA SATA into the PCI slot and it came with a SATA cable. Do I want to attach that sata cable to my motherboard and the VIA slot from the inside? Or am I just overthinking this..

You can use either your VIA SATA card or you onboard SATA. I would say use the VIA since it is guaranteed 100% to work. Just make sure you don't have the VIA driver installed.
You need to take the SATA cable and plug 1 end into the VIA SATA card and plug the other end into your drive.

Thanks for the fast reply. The via card has 3 sata ports on it, 1 sticking through the outside of the case (I had to dremel a part of my case out just so the port would stick through lol) and then 2 inside the case. I didn't know if the SATA cable was supposed to be used to connect the VIA card to the onboard SATA.

I just installed the I/O drivers by following the jungle flasher tutorial and everything went well. I then ran the PortIO32.exe and it said it was installed and running.
Both of which I am assuming are good signs.
Now I just have to wait a week before any of the 360 stuff gets here.
Coming up next will probably burning games questions since I am assuming the blank DVD+R DL's will be arriving next.

Once you get your probe and connectivity kit you will be able to dump the key. Make sure you have removed the VIA driver as it causes problems when you attempt to flash the Lite-ON.
1. Disable VIA card in Device Manager.
2. Go to C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers and remove "viamraid.sys" or "vsmraid.sys".
3. Re-enable VIA card in Device Manager.
4. Re-Boot PC.

What if I don't have either of those files in the folder? Was I supposed to use the installation disc I got to install the RAID drivers? Because right now in device manager the RAID controller is showing up with an "!" on it.
Edit: Went ahead and installed the disc and that cleared everything up. Deleted vsmraid.sys and rebooted.
If I hadn't already mentioned this thank you so much for answering all my questions.

I got the discs today like I thought I would and I wanted to try and burn an ISO.
I went through the guide found here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/660838
and now I am slightly confused on the booktype setting thing.
It says to "hit the button shown above, put a DL DVD+R into your drive and hit query then the change button, allow it to finish then either minimize or exit the program. "
I did that but I am not sure it did finish. My drive spun up for about 10 seconds and then it stopped. There was no definite "completed" sign or anything.
Is there any way to check that the disc is now a DVD-ROM? Or do I just have to hope for the best.

I believe book-type is only needed for older firmware like Xtreme firmware, not iXtreme.

In my experience with Wii games, PS2 games and XBOX games, I prefer Imgburn.
