I've followed the softmod and USB loader guides here. Everything went as expected. I used the WBFS Manager software on a single backed-up .iso of Punch Out to stick it onto an external Maxtor USB drive. Game played fine for a few hours, went to bed.
Next day, tried to add six additional games to the drive using the same method. They all result in a black screen after clicking the spinning disc. Examples:
Fitness Ultimatum
Wii Ski & Snowboard
Okami (sometimes gets to a red "Loading" logo but no further)
Ghostbusters
Trauma Center SO
House of the Dead
At least one of these (can't remember which) turned out to be PAL so I excluded it from further testing.
I tried deleting them with WBFS Mgr, adding in different order, launching USB Loader GX in different ways, nothing.
Punch Out still works.
Is there another unstated step I might have skipped somewhere? Do the backups need to be patched or something?
Should I try a different USB loader?
I'm new to this so I'm more in the "following instructions very carefully" stage than actually understanding what I'm doing.
I Have a little bit of a bug in the loader GX like yourself but it happens with 2 games Indy and Sim Racing....If i run one its fine and when i quit the game to run the other it black screens and freezes up..
I found holding the power button till red and powering up again fixes this for me. If I use another game in the loader apart from these 2 they are fine but when i run these 2 games I have to power of and on again to play the other..
Mind you its only 2 games that do this with me and im on a PAL set up so maybe different for you..
Trying again on a different external drive. Unlocked and updated USB Loader GX. Same result--game shows up in list, but results in black screen.
If I'm missing something really obvious here, let me know. For example, is this relatively new methodology and it's normal that most games *don't* work yet?
I followed the guides step-by-step and always got the result predicted by the guide (until the end where the actual game-launching just doesn't work). I'm not experienced with Wii modding but I've modded a lot of other consumer electronics so I understand the importance of following each step.
Having the same problem with the load-from-disc guide; everything went perfectly...except all my burned discs say 'unable to load disc' in the Disc Channel.
I can get some to load past black screen some to not. Heck Zelda twilight works via dvd ... but not usb. Just black screen of death. Controller stays syncd... i just don't get it
