I have a 4.0-j NTSC Wii with wiikey 1.9s. I have tried 2 different back up games recently: Punch Out and The Conduit. Both games show up in the disc channel. For Punch Out, it gives me a black screen when I try to start the game. For The Conduit, I see the safety screen and right after it, I get the 001 error.

All my other older back ups work with no problems such as Wii sports, Cooking Mama, Farcry Vengeance, Mario Party 8, etc...

Can anyone please tell me what is going on?

i believe someone explain that there was some kind of block on the new 4.0 update. you can search for larryje's softmodded guide and play the games using gamma or some backup launcher. I have the same setup as you, i can still load my old backups but i can only load newer games like punch-out throught disc channel only through gamma. its a *itch but its better then nothing.

There is now a block sadly, I ;'had' a NTSC J wii for the past few years, I sort of got it as a gift, so I never argued it not being in English... Anyway, I did alot of research and I've converted it to a NTSC U wii, up to date at 4.0 and everything is now fine, it was alot of work, but that's probably your only choice if you want to play them

I mean that my Wii is completely a North American Wii by settings and updates and everything, even though when I first got it, it was a Japanese Wii...

I wrote a post elsewhere, but I can't seem to find it...

I did this from 3.3J, so I can't confirm or claim it won't work on anything else, but here we go...

The first thing you should do is go to the ShopChannel, and there is a thing in the settings to close your account, you're going to need to close it, otherwise you won't be able to go there again under your new region!

Then there's AnyRegion Changer (I read to use 1.2, but I couldn't find it to download, so I used 1.1)
This took a little while, but go to AnyRegion Changer through the Homebrew, then while on there, scroll to the second part where it says System Menu 3.2 Installer and change it to whichever it is you're looking for.

Let that run, as I said it might take a bit, because it's partially rewriting your wii to be for another country...

Okay, so now your Wii is 3.2... the next thing you're going to want to do is remove the Weather and News channels, they will no longer work under the new Region, but when you do update (if you do) they will get readded...

After that, I discovered my Wiikey was no longer working, because it had priorly been set for Japan, SOOO your next task would be to instal the boot for that, and I don't mean 1.9S or 1.9g... you actually have to install the first basic one first (which I believe I found on here doing a search)...

That should be a good rough outline :)

I hope that helps

Can you show me the link to the wiikey disc? I have a jap wii changed to US using anyregion but I couldn't load any dvds. I bought my wii about 3 years ago and didn't know my modchip at that time so I've never updated my wiikey. I tried several config/update discs on the wiikey site but all of them didn't work.

No problem...

I was totally petrified to try it myself when I was reading around... but I actually didn't choose to have a Japanese wii, it was sorta a gift and I couldn't refuse that... but ever since I did the change over, it's been awesome!
