Xbox 360 Controller Syncing Problem

My friend bought an xbox 360 off ebay. The console starts up, everything works. But when we try to sync a wireless controller it doesn't usually work and when it does (bearly ever) some buttons don't work. I'm thinking it's a faulty RF board, but the media remote works perfectly with it. I've tried 4 different wireless controllers all with the sane result. I don't have a wired controller or play an charge kit so I'm not sure if it's just a wireless problem.

Has anyone encountered this before/is there a solution? I've searched google but that just told me what I already suspected (faulty RF board).

Maybe you could try disconnecting the RF board and connecting it back up again. If you have tested multiple wireless controllers, I'd say it is a faulty RF board like you originally thought.

The media remote uses infrared.

Okay thanks, I'll try that out next weekend. It's still under 3 year 3 rrod warranty so if need be I could induce the 3 rrod and send it in to ms.
