I backed up my nand file using bootmii succesfully before doing any mods. If I softmod my wii and decide down the road I want to remove the softmod will simply restoring the original nand.bin file return the wii to its virgin state?

You can restore you Wii to factory defaults by going into the Wii's settings, scrolling to the last part, and selecting 'Reformat Wii System Memory'.

The answer to the first post in this thread (with bootmii) is yes

If you want to "virginize" your Wii then you need to remove certain things manually before you format the system memory which only takes care of things like save files and channels.
