I bought an xbox from a friend that had the 3 lights flashing so i decided to fix it my self i just got threw doing the x-clamp fix and as soon as i turn the xbox on 2 lights start flashing i know this means its overheating i have a fan blowing at the cpu i check that all the screws were tight but no luck...any suggestions??
i can only suggest you make sure there is NO gap between the heatsink an the cpu, you could tighten them all day long but if the spacers/washers you use on the top side of the mobo are too thick the heat sink may not be touchin the cpu
yeh thats right, i use 2 washers on the heasink side, 1 metal and one nylon, tighten the srew up with your fingers and then a little bit more with a screw driver, not to much though, only about a quarter turn, then overheat, you should get 3 red lights, it may turn to 2 red lights after abit and then switch itself off, doesnt always do this but if it does take out the mother board and give the screws another quarter turn while it is still hot and then leave to cool for about 30mins, test and it should be ok!!
I know im a new poster lol, you could try to pull the fan cover off and let it run for like a minute, i did that to mine after the xclamp fix. another thing i did the penny trick to make shure i had a xbox fixable by the xclamps. Um another sugestion does it run without the case or with it cause mine would overheat ass soon as the case was one but i fixed it with some good thermal paste.
