Unfortunately, i don't think the wii will ever replace xbmc. I don't even think it's powerfull enough. The wii can't store movies on a hd like the xbox can. It's a diff type of system.
Go find a used xbox on ebay v1.0-1.1, softmod using the 007 xploit, and rebuild or see if your existing hd you had in your xbox can be salvaged, although it will need to be unlocked.
Consider the WD TV HD Media Player. Just picked one up today actually for CAD$129.99 at Costco to replace my xbox/xbmc I'd been using for a Media Centre.
I use this with a 16GB thumbdrive and it's fantastic, hope this helps you some.
I have videos on my external hard drive that I watch on the Wii.
And I don't have experience with TVersity but people have told me that they have been able to use it. And googling TVersity on Wii gave me this as the second link http://tversity.com/support/quickstart-wii/
Assuming your TV has PC input you can pick up a 25 foot set of VGA and 3.5mm audio cables for under$10 from monoprice and stream whatever video you want directly from any computer that way. You can even get a bluetooth remote control if you want, though in my case the laptop is close enough that a wireless mouse still works from the couch.

Thanks for that. I folled this guide and it kinda works, all audio works but most video is either very jump or does not have sound. These play OK on my 360, any ideas?
