I recently read that Xbox prices are being slashed. Are components such as the hard drives being lowered too?

The RRP at the moment is ridiculous.

Your joking right? Accessories like the hardware I agree but not the 360 itself.

Check this out.

Yeah, they are ridicuously overpriced, you can buy 1 tb for less than the 120gb hdd. You can always do the 120gb western-digital hdd upgrade hack, all you need is a 20gb oem hdd, and a 120gb western digital hard drive (bev).

I was thinking about that, but I read it would increase my chances of getting banned from Live. Anyone care to clarify if this is true?

I don't think ms is too worried about fake hdd, they're concentrating more on game piracy. I'm not 100% sure, but you can't play orginal xbox games with the modded hard drive (might be wrong).

I don't have any Xbox 1 games, however, I don't want to run the risk of banning so i'm going to do a little research

I know quite a few people who have done the WD 120gb mod and still going strong. The hddss.bin that is dumped contains the info to identify the drive as the original Fujitsu that Microsoft was putting in the 120gb. So even if Microsoft can see what hard drive you have, it should report as a Fujitsu.

The long title.

Western Digital Scorpio WD1200BEVS 120GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 1.5Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive

You can generally find empty hard drive cases on ebay for pretty cheap so you don't have to take apart your current drive. Borrow a memory card to transfer your stuff. That's what I did. Only game that wouldn't transfer is Left 4 Dead but no big lose there.

Yeah, I heard they're getting rid of the 60gb pro console and replacing it with the elite for $299. Hopefully the arcade price will be lowered to $149 (or less).

Well here they've been doing deals for about £97 GBP, getting increadibly cheap, compared to the PS3

correct, the pro model is going to disappear soon, they are also coming out with a new bigger hard drive, and i am sure it will be over priced as well.

Next step up I guess would be 250?!!

I never saw this at E3?

Good news is that if the DO bring out a bigger hard drive it'll push the prices of the rest down a few notches!

There's rumors of a 1TB drive coming for the 360. I personally doubt this because there's no way MS would offer a drive that size at a price customers would even consider.
I think a better solution for MS and it's customers that would be using the Games on Demand feature and Netflix would be a dash update that allows people to use any external hard drive. I don't see this ever happening, but it would make more sense than putting out an incredibly overpriced MS hard drive that noone will buy.
PS3 offers this option so I assume the only thing holding MS back is greed.

I don't believe that. Microsoft would only release that in 2.5" form, for obvious reasons, and there isn't many manufacturers that make that sized HDD.

I could see a 300, or possibly a 500GB, but never a 1TB?

Saying that over here in the United Kingdom, Not ****ing England as most people foreigners say (as i'm from Wales) There are going to be a few updates to the Xbox's within a few months. One of them is called Sky, which is our main satalite provider (not sure what it is for you in the states?)

Possibly a record feature will be in place which would mean a large HDD is needed!

All specualtion mind.

Yeah, I think a jump from 250Gb to a TB seems more like wishful thinking than anything practical. I could see a 500Gb harddrive, though..

Completely off topic: Is there a stigma attached to England for the rest of the UK? I was doing research on my family tree(we're from Wales), and I've seen people call England a rotten place. And on Torchwood the other night, they bashed England, too.

Its Farnsworth. With an H. Dont ask...

i would say that its safe to say alot of people would be buying this, due to the very fact of games on demand, installing games to the hard drive, and more and more dlc being released. I, in fact would be one of those people to go and buy it. my 120 is filled up and i need more room!

The Irish (northen and republic) hate the English.
The Scots, hate the English
The Welsh hate the English
The English hate everyone.

If you really want to know why i'm sure I could write up a little essay why. The list is endless.

Some people don't even know what this is

also, If your from outside the UK, just say you support these in football (soccer).

Spreading the word :-)

homesick, you seem to be very knowledgeable when it comes to Xboxs. Is there any evidence of a larger drive coming? I haven't seen anything. What would you say the size would likely to be?

I'd love to be able to get something like a Buffalo Terrastation with 4TB, and just stream everything via optic cable in the future. Would possibly a issue with copywriting, but would love to see it in the new Xbox.

I would not worry about a modded hard drive, i do not think there is any way for them to tell since your modifying the firmware and sectors to match theirs. And if done right you can still play original xbox games you just have to do some hex editing and restoring of partitions(there are tutorials that explain exactly how to do this).
Its actually not that hard I would recommend it to anyone.

360 Benq ixtreme 1.6, Talismoon Whispermax (blue), custom window, black metallic paint, western digital 120gb hard drive
