unable to connect to xbox live. help please?

I've connected to xbox live successfully in the past but now I'm unable to. I'm connecting the xbox360 directly to the modem with an ethernet cable. When I run a test it detects the network but fails when it attempts to connect to the internet.


I've searched the internet for solutions extensivley but none of the suggestions fixed the problem.

so far Ive tired:
-switching the modem off then on again
-switching the xbox off then on again
-manually entering the Ip address, defalt gateway subnet mask and dns settings
-asigning an alternate mac adress
-leaving all of the above settings in network config set to automatic
-combinations of automatic settings and manually entered ones
-turning everything off and waitng 24 hours before attempting it again

Nothing works!

Also, I'm sure that theres nothing wrong with the modem itself because I can use it to connect to the internet on my PC without any problems.

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

check and mac shure you mac adress is added if you use this feature on your modem, also if your at a college campus or something alike they will most likely have a squid proxy, thus rendering live useless.

yes ive already tried entering the mac address. I'm in my own home (and ive connected to xboxlive here before) so it Couldn?t be a proxy or anything like that.

Revert your router to factory settings, also what method are you using to connect wired/wireless?

I'm not using a router so the router setting on the xbox are alredy on factory defalt as i havent touched them. I'm using a wired connection (cable modem directly connected to the xbox with ethernet cord)

sounds like your cable modem is either faulty or you are not getting the internet anymore

lol, how did he post a thread on a forum via the internet, when the internet isn't working properly? Hence the expression "I'm sure that theres nothing wrong with the modem itself because I can use it to connect to the internet on my PC without any problems"
