do i need to switch out my drive for the exact same drive or can I just buy any drive and it will work.
also do I have to put in the drive key or anything, I know I had to on the 360, wondering if it was the same thing.

No, with the wii replacing the drive is just a straight up swap. Region and chipset don't matter. Pop the old one out and pop the new one in.
