Moving hard drive to another box crashes drive

I have tested this on 3 xboxes and 3 different drives and all get the same problem. I power down the box, and move the drive to another box and my profile is gone. I try to recover my gamertag and it can't write to the drive unless I format it. ideas?

Sounds like the hard drive has gone south. Are your game saves available to see?

Yeah but it does it on 3 different boxes and 3 different drives. What are the chances they are all bad?

so all of your game saves are there but your profile isn't? interesting problem. you might have to try and migrate your game data from one drive to another and then re-format. sounds kinda like a pain though.

do you switch 360's frequently? i keep my profile on a 32mb memory card and just switch that between my boxes.

does the same thing on the memory card. I fix a lot of boxes so I get these alot. Sometimes I don't and other times I do. the weird thing is only my LIVE account profile is gone and yes all data is still there. But the only way I can get my LIVE account back is to format my memory card or hd again!

Yeah and they work perfect after a format again too. Not sure what to tell this customer.
