I have used the raft of information within the forum to modify two different Wii's (my brothers & now mine), but between moding the two machines the guides have updated, so I wanted to understand the differences.... Hence the questions. Sorry if they are answered elsewhere, but my efforts have not been able to find definitive answers hence why asking....

(1) First Wii method - Stuff on SD, DowngraderIOS35.dol, Wadmanager - Install IOS35.wad, Wad Manager - Install CIOSv7, Wad Manager - install IOS36.wad & BUL3G.wad & HBC.wad. Then IOS60patched.wad, CIOS38_rev13.wad. Then IOSdowngrader in HBC

I would really like to understand what each step does:-

DowngraderIOS35.dol - I assume it patches an existing IOS, but does it place it into another NAN memorty place or just patch. Also what does the patch do?

IOS35.wad - Is this installing a standard wii IOS or something special?

CIOSv7 - Is this a modified IOS that installs as IOS249 which allows playing backups? If so which one?
IOS36.wad - Whats this needed for?
BUL3g - ??
HBC - Homebrew channel I presume?
IOS60patched - ??
CIOS38_rev13b - Allows use of usb devices?
IOSDowngrader - Allows trucha signed expliot, but whats this?

(2) Second wii, Install HBC, DowngradeIOS35, CIOS38_reva Installer, IOS36, IOS60 patched, WG3g002fix

Some differences between this method of install, any benefits?

WG3g002fix.wad - ? What does this do?

Your thread's title is pretty boderline. It might get your thread closed. Although it does seem a bit more appropriate after reading what you have typed in here than before.

Downgrading IOS35 makes it so that you can install your own version of IOS35. Without downgrading it you wouldn't be able to install over it.

IOS35 is a standard Wii IOS. The one that you install isn't quite as standard. http://wiibrew.org/wiki/IOS_History

cIOSv7 or more correctly cIOS36rev7 is the modified IOS that installs to IOS249 that allows playing backups. the cIOS36 means that it was a modified original IOS36. cIOS38rev10 for example is a modified 38.

I'm not sure what IOS36.wad is about. IOS36 is a normal IOS that is found on Wiis so there must be something different about it. I didn't write the guide but I know that I don't need it but you can ask Larry in the thread.

BUL3g, Backup Loader 0.3 Gamma. Personally I'd use NeoGamma instead.

As you said HBC is the Homebrew Channel

IOS60patched. Is a patched version of IOS60. IOS60 is the IOS that the system menu uses. This IOS60 is patched so that you can run bootleg VC and Wiiware games from the SD menu. This is what you should never uninstall a wad of. Uninstalling a wad of the patched IOS60 will magically transform your Wii into a white brick.

You should think of cIOS38rev13b as a later version of cIOS36rev7. It allows you to be able to play backups kind of in the same way. The ability to play games from the USB actually started with cIOS36rev9. Everyone after 9 will allow you to play from USB.

And I'm really not the best at explaining the technical side of the trucha bug. My writing isn't concise enough and this post would be a lot longer. But it allows stuff not signed by Nintendo to be executed, installed, whatever. If the IOS35 that you used to install cIOS was not trucha bugged, when you tried to do it, the Wii would give you it's best Star Wolf impression... can't let you do that...
aka know as -1035 or -2011 or whatever it usually likes to say.

And both of those methods are pretty similar. I see that one skipped installing cIOS36rev7 and went straight to installing cIOS38rev13 by using the feature of WadManager that allows you to choose which IOS you want to use to install something.

WG3g002fix.wad is the WiiGator Backup Launcher Gamma with the 002 fix. I honestly do even remember what the 002 problem is. But quite a few games will give you a blue screen with a 002 error when you try to play them. This version of the Launcher fixes this. The 002 fix is supposed to be integrated into cIOS38rev13b but it has its own problems.

You don't need to if you are just going to be using NeoGamma while Backup Loader Gamma just gets neglected.

BUL3g.wad specifically the .wad part means that when you install it, it will become a channel on your Wii's System Menu.

.dols go in a folder in your apps folder and you'll see them when you load the Homebrew Channel.

If you want a channel of Neogamma instead of just going to it in the HBC like how installing a wad of BUL3g.wad would have put a channel on your Wii System menu then you will have to install a wad of Neogamma like the ones here http://www.gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=165485

It doesn't matter Neogamma will create another Channel for you. So if you want to keep both backup loaders you can. But I ended removing Backuploader 0.3 gamma.

1) Backup Launcher is old. Neogamma is new http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=158884
1A) to get the Neogamma Channel http://www.gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=165485
2) Superdump (Requires homebrew) dump your game in 30 minutes. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/780900
3) Make your Wii skip updates! Use preloader 0.29 and enable skip updates. http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Preloader
4) Scared of Bricking your Wii? Make an NAND backup! Install BootMii http://bootmii.org/install/
