Hi

I ran the softmod guide all the way thru and thought I'd do the gamecube support and the IOS downgrader but now on the game channel it just says that my wii wants to update the firmware and that if it detects illegal software my machine may be rendered useless. What do I do? I wish I hadn't done the IOS downgrader as I doubt I needed too but I'm pretty new at this. Obviously I'd like the game channel back, any ideas?

IOS Downgrader isn't bad for you. Your game wants to update because you no longer have the latest version of every IOS. You can update if you want but then the trucha bug will be absent from your IOSes.

I'd just use a Backup Launcher or USB Loader to play the games. However if you update your disc channel will be back. And if you do IOS Downgrader again the game will want to update again.

Thank you for the quick reply.

I can use the back up launcher, just checked so thanks for that.

If I update will it screw up my wii? that's my concern! As it says if it finds any illegal software it may stop it from working. I'd like to have the game channel back if poss.

Is there a way of updating without doing it officially from Nintendo maybe?

Thanks for the help

Updating should not screw up your Wii. Many people, myself included had their Wii softmodded and have updated to 4.0 through Nintendo.

And the update doesn't "search" for illegal software. It is the conflict of the update and unauthorized software that they are claiming might, not will, might causes issues. I can't guarantee 100% that nothing will ever go wrong. This is a risk taking business but you should be ok.

There is a way of updating that isn't through Nintendo but it doesn't solve the problem of the IOSes not being updates and thus the disc wanting to update. This method is Waninkoko's Updater which you can find here http://www.teknoconsolas.es/blog/waninkoko/firmware-updater-40 But let me warn you that people have bricked their Wii by not having enough space when they performed it. Others have had their Wiis bricked for apparently no reason at all. Do you research before you try things such as these.

Preloader http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Preloader has a hack for not having disc updates display. Just read about it and be aware of the risks. Especially when dealing with the System Menu files.

I would look into bootmii and install it particularly if you have the ability to install it as boot2.

Thank you for all your help.

I'll look into Bootmii.

Not sure if I'll update or not as I'd hate to screw up my wii and as I can still load original titles thru the backup loader it's not so bad, not as bad as I first thought anyway.

Once again, thanks.
